I am literally shocked over this movie.
The artstyle has to be one of the most appealing one i've ever seen in anime, as well as beautiful emotional soundtracks.
The romance contept between Taki and Mitsuha was something unique and interesting that i've never seen before.
And the movie tells you what's happening between them both, and how they develop feelings for eachother,
without being able to see eachother in real life.
I hope to see such a beautiful anime movie from Makoto Shinkai again in the future.

Oh my god this film !!! You really have to watch it. The end is like hanging onto a breaking rope and wondering if you'll live. Not sure if anyone understands but that's how l felt. My eyes were watering, l was hoping it would be alright.

It's really really pretty, gorgeous, beautiful, but the plot is so all over the place...
My favourite movie of all time, animated or otherwise, and from any country. I just logged my 8th view, but I've seen it a lot more than that. I don't always log views for whatever reason, and sometimes I rewatch individual scenes. I'm always picking up new things I didn't catch before. For example, this time through I realised the answer to a question that's been bugging the fandom for a long time. Why do they keep forgetting? It's simple. We see in the hallucination (when the animation style changes) that the braided cord has been spiritually connected to Mitsuha since she was born. While the timeline of the movie is irrational and paradoxical, Mitsuha makes the connection to Taki by giving him the braided cord on the train in Tokyo in 2003. This is irrational and paradoxical because, prior to receiving the cord, Taki has never met Mitsuha. So, why did she go there in the first place? You see, it's a paradox. However, it isn't the only time that time loops. Time looped after the destruction of Itomori. Taki rewound time by drinking Mitsuha's shrine maiden sake. He had the braided cord, and he was in the temple, so he was able to go back once again. Keep in mind that Taki's story takes place in September 2016, almost three years after the comet incident, which happened on the evening of October 4, 2013. (This date is given several times.) So as long as Taki has the cord, he can go back. However, during twilight hour (which, let's face it, is more like twilight moment), he handed the cord back to her. This ended his connection to her, so as soon as the sun fully set, the connection was broken and his memory began to fade. Had he held onto the cord, that would not have happened. Some fans theorise that, after the events of the film, they met and either remembered everything, or began a new relationship. I am sorry to say that the first situation is highly improbable. It is possible they began a relationship, though. But it's up to the viewer to decide that.
Another thing I noticed this time is that the shrine Mitsuha's family worships at isn't a proper Japanese shrine. It's a little statue in a cave under a massive rock. What is that thing exactly? It almost looks chiseled. But it's not a manmade structure. The shrine area is down underneath it. I'll tell you what it is, it's the first comet that struck the area. I think it's pretty obvious that a comet did strike there as it's clearly a crater, but I think that stone is literally the comet itself, and the worshiping area is directly inside the comet, which split on impact. I'm not sure how scientifically likely it all is, though. But we do know that the lake in Itomori is theorised, by the people in the movie, to have been formed by an earlier comet. I think the movie intends for us to conclude that the shrine is where an even earlier comet struck. Oh wait, it gets better. When the first comet struck, it is my theory that most of the town avoided the area, but one family considered the comet to be sentient and godlike, so they began worshiping it. They were thought of as crazy by the rest of the town. Some hundreds of years later, body-swapping shenanigans similar to those in the movie happened, and a plot similar to the movie happened. Mitsuha's grandmother says as much. Those who worship at the shrine at the first comet are protected, albeit indirectly. There may be some Japanese legends that clarify this or make connections I'm merely grasping at. Japan isn't my country or culture, so that's an aspect I won't understand. I'd love to grab a translator and ask the director, Makoto Shinkai, but I'm sure he'd just laugh and say it's however you want to interpret it. Either way, the man is a genius.

Estas preguntas se presentan sutilmente y sin respuestas claras, operando también a un nivel menos filosófico: el de un romance donde los personajes están separados no solo por el lugar sino por el tiempo.
El cordón trenzado que lleva Mitsuha en su cabello, representa el hilo rojo del destino que según la tradición japonesa, conecta a las personas que están destinadas a buscarse y encontrarse. En todo momento, existe la sensación de que todo se derrumbará si alguien jala del hilo demasiado fuerte, pero cuando el cielo empieza a envolverse en llamas, los personajes deciden entrecerrar los ojos ante sus defectos. Especialmente cuando está en juego el trabajo tan serio que han hecho en nombre del amor.
La película es nítida y limpia, aunque tiene tonos de impresionismo; escenas abstractas que deconstruyen la animación a líneas ondulantes y trazos tenues. Ningún detalle es demasiado pequeño para pasar desapercibido. La edición me recuerda a Paprika y a Perfect Blue de Satoshi Kon, por el modo en que se representa el paso del tiempo.
Igual que en la mayoría del anime japonés contemporáneo, Shinkai combina la animación tradicional dibujada a mano con rotoscopia y CGI. Los fondos de la película se basan en fotografías reales y los personajes son reconociblemente humanos, aunque con las características propias de un anime. Los colores saturados y suntuosos, hacen que incluso las ubicaciones más normales se vean como auténticas pinturas en movimiento. Evocan sentimientos de nostalgia aunque el espectador no conozca los escenarios.
Hay piezas diseminadas por mi vida que me recuerdan esta búsqueda abstracta; el silencio y el ruido de la ciudad, la nostalgia por lugares en los que nunca he estado, melodías que me remiten a alguien en mi pasado o en mi futuro. Y la sensación de seguridad que viene cada vez que pienso en todo esto. No hablo necesariamente de la película, sino del concepto detrás de ella: cómo está conectado todo en este mundo. Estamos enlazados con el tiempo y entre nosotros, algo de lo que no podemos escapar. Es parte de nosotros. Es nuestra magia. Y también es algo terriblemente triste y extrañamente maravilloso, ya que siempre nos estamos perdiendo de algo o de alguien.
El hilo del destino acerca a estos dos extraños, mientras dos trenes llenos de gente los llevan en direcciones opuestas, incluso cuando sus corazones permanecen en la misma línea. No importa qué tan reales parezcan sus sueños al despertarse, la experiencia sobrehumana que han vivido les deja solo un rastro de melancolía, un sudor frío y una leve reverberación de sus nombres.

I agree with everyone here in that this is an gorgeous looking movie and music and voice acting are great too. But while the story is interesting and beautiful it reveals quite a lot of plot holes if you think about the sci fi part of it. That's why can't rate 10/10 like most of you.

Kimi no Na wa es excelente en lo que quiere conseguir aunque se pone algunos obstáculos voluntariamente en el camino.
Esta película hace muchas cosas bien. Una de ellas es el poder comprimir en 30 minutos toda la trama sobre Cambio de Cuerpos y de esos 30 minutos en los primeros 15 concretamente hay algo muy interesante al momento de pasar de la zona rural a la cuidad. Antes de pasar a la cuidad la protagonista dice "Quiero ser un chico guapo de Tokio en mi siguiente vida", de primeras no puede significar nada y hasta pude llegar a sonar extraño e incoherente si se analiza un poco, pero bueno el objetivo en este caso es lo que se consigue cuando la protagonista dice eso. Esa frase consigue que el espectador espere que la protagonista amanezca en el cuerpo de un hombre o que ocurra algo alrededor de el cuerpo del hombre, y así cuando pasamos a la siguiente escena el espectador puede asimilar de una manera mucho mas rápida lo que esta ocurriendo en pantalla. En este caso que la "mente" de la protagonista esta en el cuerpo de un hombre y así no esperar a que se planteé como tal esto. Esta forma tan sutil de presentarlo lo vuelve mas natural y por ende mas sorprendente.
Los "Viajes en el tiempo" en esta película están bien expuestos, aunque si se les analiza se pueden llegar encontrar fallos, el objetivo primordial que es hacer un guion en el que la primera vez que el espectador vea la película no se encuentre con ningún fallo y con ello no se vea perjudicada la inmersión se consigue de muy buena manera.
A lo que me refiero conque la película se pone obstáculos al intentar hacer un buen guion fuera de los "Viajes en el Tiempo", es en que varias situaciones son incoherentes porque se les da muy poco o nulo desarrollo. Una de estas situaciones puede ser cuando le cortan la falda a la compañera del protagonista, esa situación es tan incoherente porque no hay una razón por la cual el cliente quisiera cortarle la falda mas allá de hacerlo por deseo propio, lo cual no tiene sentido en un guion. Los guionistas hacen esto varias veces a lo largo de la película, este tipo de situaciones realmente no tienen ningún tipo de justificación y por lo tanto son errores graves por lo sencillos que son de arreglar sin afectar a la trama.
Independientemente de todos los errores, es una película tremendamente hermosa que logra contar una trama de cierta manera compleja de una muy buena forma.
Beautiful movie, the animation is indeed awesome and the characters are so lovable that hook you from the start. Emotional for sure, I was hoping for the ending to see how it ends, but at the same time hoping for more time with the characters. Great, amazing movie!

I don't normally give out 10/10 easily unless it's really good on all parts. Storyline, Character, Visual Animation & Music/Sound. This definitely a 10 overall. I was a bit skeptical with all the internet hype. Initially i thought it will be another body switching romance drama. I guessed wrong and also I hope they'll make it into a live action.
The best movie I have watched
I couldn't remember the last time I saw such a surreal movie. Even though it was fiction still I can't deny the fact that the plot was spot on. I was hooked for an hour with this movie. Makoto Shinkai did a very good job. It was a masterpiece. Period.
This movie instantly cemented Makoto Shinkai as one of my favourite directors. I can confidently say this was the best animated film of the 2010s. Complimented greatly by an amazing soundtrack. Even if you aren't someone who watches anime, this is a must see.
Makoto Shinkai's is mostly known for his previous works, 5cm per Second and Garden of Words among others. Your Name continues his tradition of peculiar plots that are suited quite well for anime

Absolutely mind-blowing visuals. This thing is so beautiful I wanna pause every few frames to admire the work. Way less impressed by the story : I really like the magical realism aspect and the "running against the clock" pressure but I couldn't care less for the YA romance and all the heavy handed emotional scenes and music.

This movie explores some unique ideas but has severe plot holes. It's worth watching for someone who is looking for a feel good emotional/romantic animated movie with little humour and foggy concepts.

I learnt before watching it that the movie was supposed to be beautiful. Well, it lived up to that expectation. An amazing anime, magical, I cried lol.

My rating now is 6, I think I need to rewatch this 4 more times to give it a 10.
I understand the idea, but I think it could've been told better.
It's excellent, but the ending leaves me feeling empty... I recommend to look for the manga "Your Name: After Story", which contains a good close to the final arc.
Modern Japanese animation classic that doubles as the highest gross box office in Japanese history. It was excellent. I'm not sure it was "top box office ever" excellent, but it was still good. Tells an extremely complicated story as far as time lines go, combined with body switching, and that's 2 things I'm a pretty big mark for so this was almost a guarantee I'd like it. Plus I love the soundtrack, I've listened to it way too much since it came out. It's hard to talk about without spoiling things as there are a lot of unexpected turns that change your understanding of what's happening. Not sure if it was as good as the best Ghibli or that, but it was close enough.

For the last three years now, I've had a tradition: start Kimi no Na wa. at 10:28:04 (if Blu-ray/DVD, start it earlier just to get past the menus and whatnot, and once you get to the main title, back up to 00:00:00 and pause until that time) and don't pause for anything. Japanese dub, no subs. Rest of the year I'll watch the English dub, but for some reason I like to go raw (fandom term for Japanese dub with no subs, I guess because it's how the Japanese would watch it) for New Years. The reason for that specific time is, the clock will strike midnight right when the thing happens. I don't want to spoil it, even with spoiler tags, but I will say it's what happens about ten minutes after the Sharpie drop. If you've seen it, you know. If you still need a clue, you can flip the time, that is skip to 1:31:56 and look what happens there... but you shouldn't do that if you haven't seen the film.

But I have to say this anime killed me it was so damned good. I mean the art is Beautifull, and the story is good and keeps drawing you in, and there is happing something all the time. I really love this anime it has to be the best anime I watch in a long time. And that something coming from me. I feel bad I been waiting this long to watch it.

Wow this was a great one! The music and animation alone were breathtakingly beautiful. Shinkai has always had marvelous animation quality but this was his best work so far. And the choice of RADWiMPS for the music was clearly the right decision. Because the lead singer is also fluent in English, it has allowed this film's music to reach an incredibly wide audience. After watching sub and dub, you can hardly tell that the film wasn't originally intended for English only viewers, the impact is still wonderful. If you haven't really gotten into Anime (Japanese animations), then this film is for you. Just watch it, and enjoy the ride.

Let me be honest, it has been a damn long while since any movie broke me like this one did. I'm glad I was home alone today, from the moment Taki and Mitsuha see each other on the mountain I couldn't keep my eyes dry anymore until the very end. Somehow, someway this movie really hit me deep down. Amazing, amazing.
I went in blind. I knew about "Your Name" and I was always sad that I missed my opportunity to watch it at the cinema and today I saw a clip on Instagram about the final meeting spot of the movie and it hit me that it was about DAMN time to watch "Your Name" and luckily for me it was available at a streaming service I had.
The art is beautiful, the soundtrack amazing, the song "Sparkle" beautiful as ever and the movie itself epic.
"Your Name" will stay with me a long long time and I'm happy that my girlfriend just wants to watch "Home Alone" tomorrow so I can relax. What a day, what a movie.

The animation was absolutely beautiful. The voice acting was good. The vibes were good, along with the music. But I was beyond confused by the plot the whole time I was watching the show. I kept trying to figure out what was going on, but I just couldn’t?? Can’t rlly get emotional to a movie that you don’t understand. I think if the plot was better conveyed it would have been awesome. Like I understand now that the movie was over, but the whole movie I was trying to figure out what was happening instead of getting into the movie :sob::sob:
This movie is incredibly special to me. The animation is beautiful. The story is emotional. The music... oh man, the feelings are too much. I wish I could watch this movie for the first time again.
I have frequently seen this movie on tops of many "Greatest Movie of All Time" type of charts and simply never got around to it due to not being a huge fan of anime. Fortunately, I had motivation to watch it this week as it was a choice in my movie club! Needless to say, I am grateful to have finally gotten the push to watch this, because this movie is great! The spectrum of emotions, beautiful animation, and overall quality of the script are all pretty top notch. I still don't personally love this as much as others, but its general greatness is pretty undeniable.

I went in to this not really knowing what to expect (and I can’t remember why I originally got hold of it either!) but it truly was an incredible film.
It’s not a blockbuster action packed anime, but rather a slow yet intriguing story about 2 individuals intertwined in fate.

An absolutely stunning film!
There is nothing to even marginally dislike about 'Your Name'. The animation is sensational, breathtaking in fact. The amount of detail, particularly in Tokyo, is insane. It's utterly gorgeous to watch.
Then you have the magnificent story, which is filled to the brim with feeling and meaning. I felt everything that it intended me to. It's also paced to perfection and is told through two memorable characters in Taki (Ryūnosuke Kamiki) and Mitsuha (Mone Kamishiraishi).
Kamiki and Kamishiraishi are excellent in the lead roles. Of course I don't understand Japanese and was using subtitles, yet I still felt every intended emotion from those two. Class from them. Of the others, Ms. Okudera (Masami Nagasawa) is the one that sticks out most to me.
If all that wasn't enough, you even have a tremendous soundtrack and score to boot. It really does all make for a fantastic viewing experience, one I will be revisiting no doubt and one I would undoubtedly recommend.
Everyone can relate to the feeling that something is missing from your life, or rather, that your life is but an incessant search for something that is not there, and you believe will complete you. The more pragmatic don’t acknowledge they’re on this quest, or simply don’t believe such can ever be found. The more romantic, who I side with, believe this could be a place, maybe a person and refuse to stop looking. The concept of soulmates isn’t new - this idea that someone out there is the half that will finally make you whole - but “Your Name” has to be one of the most beautiful depictions of it ever created. The film is riddled with metaphors and symbolism, built so consistently, intelligently and subtly from the very beginning. Namely, the usage of time - and the magic of the twilight -, tradition and religion were all fascinating and woven with the main story as beautifully as the Kumihimo.
I’m just forever in awe of storytellers who can go from a concept as “common” as a soulmate and turn it into something like this movie. I want to rewatch it a million times.
Unbelievable that it took me that long to finally watch it. The manga made my heart bleed and the anime adaption is even more intense.

I laughed, I cried, I was in awe of the animation and story (one of the better tellings of body swap tbh), and then spent the final act practically screaming at my screen because it was ridiculously intense, and I didn't realize how invested I was.

It's a visually impressive experience with endearing characters and a unique story.
Gorgeous anime in which a big-city teenage boy and small-town teenage girl swap places at night and affect change in each other's personal lives (just as soon as they've finished exploring their new bodies). The plot starts out fairly generic, but takes a twist in the middle that rescues it from ho-hum mediocrity and transforms it into something greater.
It's very Japanese, in that both main characters speak in rapid-fire bursts, enunciating their every thought in a dreamy, poetic monologue, which alternately works for it and against it. There's a level of spirituality and self-discovery, too, that's unspoken but constantly present, and a message about how important it can be to get in touch with the male and female aspects of our personality.
Beautiful on many levels, not the least of which is its raw visual splendor. It's one of the most staggeringly lovely animated films I've ever taken in, stealing my breath with almost every scene; in many cases, I cursed myself for not speaking fluent Japanese because my eyes spent so much time on the subtitles. Both the rustic landscapes of a small, classical Japanese village and the crawling, flashy chaos of downtown Tokyo are fantastically rendered, sharing both a stunning aesthetic and a sense of warmth and familiarity by the closing scenes.
A fresh, wonderful, touching tale with a little something for everyone, I'd dare to rank this with many of Studio Ghibli's finest.

Possibly Shinkai's best work so far, and as a massive fan of both 5cm and Garden of Words I do not say that lightly. The animation is breathtaking as always but some scenes go beyond mere visual splendor and are just mesmerizing. The characters are so fun to be around and you'll find yourself rooting for them and hoping it all works out. I was slightly concerned when I saw the "boob fondling" scene in the trailer but even that becomes a genuinely charming gag throughout the movie, believe it or not!
As to be expected of Shinkai, the film also takes you on a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows and keeps you guessing how it will end until pretty much the last minute.
I cannot recommend this enough.
