This is a fair sequence of cliches. Mildly amusing at times, mostly due to Tom Hardy and Chris Pine acting.
Really fun film, 7/10, would have given 8 but she picked the wrong guy; Chris Pine's character was a dick and he was never himself when he was with her, plus it was cheap to put Tom Hardy's character back with his ex wife at the end, just because, like?? otherwise I enjoyed it and I'm not usually a girl who likes Romance Comedies
really liked it. Funny as hell at moments! Totally ninja!
funny movie. =)
nice for a friday evening if u don't wanna go out.
I am of the strong opinion she chose the wrong guy, apart from that the core of the film (while yes, very problematic) was okay and fun. However Tom Hardy really held this film up, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine were not at their best. However my favourite element of the film my the brother-like affection. Actually, get rid of the love plot all together! Let me see that awesome chemistry between the guys.
"I don't believe in mistakes. It's the mistakes that make us who we are."
This is actually a pretty funny movie with a great cast. The over-the-top action and jokes fits well if you turn your brain off. Tom Hardy looks great in this but he gets absolutely wrecked way more than Chris Pine.
I thought it was hilarious, and a very entertaining film. I thought all three leads were great, the action scenes were fun to enjoy, and the comedy were funny at times. I never went into the movie expecting anything great, and what I got in return was an enjoyable time at the theater. Just take it for what it is, mindless entertainment.
Caught this movie on cable (parents' house) and it was quite delightful! Nothing too intellectual, but a fun watch nonetheless.
Tom hardy and Chris pine really did a good job,
Story is quite predictable but the motto here is comedy,
which i see is taken care of perfectly.
Great movie. Pine and Hardy have the chemistry of a Hill and Tatum, truly incredible to watch. One of the most powerful duos in movie history, even rivaling that of Gibson and Glover in the Lethal Weapon films.
Not bad. The action scenes could have been better if they panned the camera out a bit.
Hate it when a non-important supporting actor is so unnecessarily crude and vulgar.
The Actionscenes are not the best, besides that the movie is funny
just a fun, silly movie to watch. love the ending:joy::rofl:
This Means War is a spy thriller meets romantic comedy. Did it feel like True Lies in many places? Yup, but it was still really good.
There are some genuinely funny moments here - one in which I laughed way harder than I expected... thanks, Ken. Also, given that it is a romcom: there are character arcs, there are touching moments, there are predictable moments - mostly the end - but I'm not of the philosophy that a movie needs unexpected turns to be worth watching... if that's what you think, go watch David Lynch films.
The cast is great, but Tom Hardy is the clear star here, showing that he can play the tough guy or charming gentleman with ease.
I would totally watch this again, and maybe as a double feature with The Spy Who Dumped Me.
I love this comedy
The movie is funny ; dynamic and the acting really good
Reese have a good chemistry on screen with both Chris and Tom
Not a great movie but can find enjoyment just because Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy. Without that trio i'd imagine this movie would be pretty bad but i was quite enjoyable just cause of them 3.
"Damn. I think that's the new British invasion, what just happened there. That's what that was."
For the most part, this film was mediocre. I believe that the majority of so-called chick flicks are probably decent. Films that are genuinely pretty good. I don't think this is one of those films. That's not saying that this is a bad film. But I wouldn't call it a good one, either.
There wasn't much of a narrative. This film had an antagonist and created a personal reason for that concerning the two lead characters, which wasn't that important. But this film is more of a rom-com, so it's easy to expect that the antagonist wouldn't be that important. Here's the thing: there didn't need to be an antagonist. He wasn't that important, anyway. It's like the only reason was for the end of the film. The action-y, spy stuff was more of a backdrop for the romance/comedy aspects, which was fine. The problem was the end product.
Overall, the comedy was alright. But I thought some of the comedic elements, specifically with FDR and Tuck: as well as when it came to their back-and-forths with Lauren being "the cause," were pretty decent. The things they were doing were questionable. But I'll admit that the comedy concerning some of those things was somewhat funny and entertaining.
The action sequences, for the most part, looked choreographed decent. But the editing was slightly hectic. That negatively impacted the action sequences; then again, it's not like there was as big of an emphasis on that aspect compared to the romance/comedy aspects. Still, there was a pretty decent action sequence near the end of the film in the restaurant.
Surprisingly, the cinematography was quite decent, even though I wasn't expecting the contrary. There were also instances where the lighting stood out. I guess I found it surprising for this film's cinematography to be as decent as it was, based on the type of film it is; props to Russell Carpenter for doing a commendable job.
The best part about this film was undoubtedly the duo leads, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. Alright, a little more so Tom than Chris. Their characters were the highlight of the film, by far. The relationship between them was a pretty good element throughout its entirety.
As for Reese Witherspoon, she was there. That's it. I'm not saying she shouldn't have been in the film. I think the romance/love triangle aspect was the wrong way to go. I feel like the better route would've been an action/spy film with all of them being spies: and there being no romantic undertone.
And, of course, the writing of the romantic involvements between Lauren, FDR, and Tuck, while done for comedy, was pretty dumb. There were some heartfelt moments, specifically with her and the one she didn't choose, more than with the one she did choose. But the overall writing of the relationships and the things done by FDR and Tuck, how it was more of something to win between them, a competition, instead of not caring about that and focusing on Lauren individually, in a logical manner, was stupid, logic-wise.
If there had to be a romance angle and a subsequent relationship, in the end, it should've lowkey been FDR and Tuck, or both of them and Lauren in a polyamorous relationship. Not only was Lauren's choice disappointing, even though it "made sense" because of character growth (for who she chose) and other subtle things, but the romantic aspect itself in this film was weak.
Other thoughts:
The title sequence was kind of cool. I'm sure that, in a broader sense, it's pretty average, basic. But I don't have that viewpoint because I haven't seen many films. Yet.
I never thought I'd see Tom Hardy's ass get smacked. And it looked like a proper smack, too. That scene was great: and so was Tuck's revenge at the end of the film.
I'm pretty sure Tom Hardy genuinely laughed in the scene of FDR and Tuck in the surveillance van. I remember reading about that; maybe it's not true. It was after the line, "You've seen it." I think Chris Pine ad-libbed; that's why Tom genuinely laughed. That's cool trivia there if it's true.
Speaking of genuine laughter, it somewhat seemed Mike Dopud (Ivan) laughed in the interrogation scene after Tuck said the line about FDR's "teeny, tiny, itty-bitty jazz hands." But I'm probably wrong on that. A slight chuckle by Ivan after that line was likely in the script.
I feel like Chris Pine and Tom Hardy's roles in this film were easy to play; comfortable to get into the mindset. Personality-wise. I feel like their characters are similar to their personalities in real life. At least with Tom. For some reason, I feel like Tom's character seemed very Tom Hardy-esque. I guess I get that impression with Chris' character as well. Of course, I don't know either actor: I could be completely wrong; I probably am wrong.
All that said, this film was relatively entertaining. It's not a great film or a bad film. While the writing was pretty outrageous, there were enough bright spots. And I think this film has a surprising level of rewatchability. It's, by all means, a semi-mediocre film regarding the premise and various instances in it, but unlike the previous three films I have watched, this film doesn't seem like it'll get old, no matter how many times you watch it.
No, No, No, NO...
For Gods sake...When will Hollywood see that you actually have to have a script to make a good comedy. This movie is just filled with air. You never care for any of the characters. The action scenes are nicely directed but lack any depth and are just fillers for a non-existing romantic plot. There's more bromance than romance. Everything is so bad I almost didn't finish...almost...and when I did...what happens? The ending was so anticlimactic and stupid I almost wished I had just turned the damn thing off.
Keep well away...WELL away.
Bond would be first at the target anyway... ;)
2 unprofessional agents use their resources to woo a girl. While Chris Pine's character especially is too much of a jerk and bad friend to root for. And Reese Witherspoon plays a two timing hussy.
That's all you really need to know. If you’re really bored. This Means War is at least an entertaining bad movie. If that makes sense.

This movie is exactly what you think it is…so have fun and enjoy the ride.

Whether you like or dislike this movie, the ridiculously unrealistic portrayal of the CIA, tropes or uncomfortable situations, there is one thing you can't deny:
The female protagonist -Lauren- is not ridiculed or slutshamed, despite having had relationships in the past and considering sleeping with/dating two guys. (And rightfully so!) Neither the two men in question nor anyone else thinks of that as slutty or bad, which should be a given but ends up being one of the redeeming factors of an otherwise mediocre film. It's sad, but it's also true: I found it positively refreshing how they never questioned or judged her.
I do have huge issues with the actual love-triangle, though. Regardless of the Beauty-and-the-Beast nature of the relationship between Lauren and Chris Pine's character, there is also the fact that both guys used their CIA technology to spy on her and, truthfully, stalk her. To find out where she was, what she liked, whom she had been with in the past. - I don't care how unrealistic it was, or how it was just a plot-decide and a comic relief. It's not acceptable, period.
Lauren and Tom Hardy's character, too, made me slightly uncomfortable. They weren't Beauty-and-the-Beast material, but did the writers need him to be with his ex-wife again after Lauren's final rejection? Was that really necessary? Yes, I, too, wanted him to have a happy ending, giving his sweet and genuine (and stalker!creepy) nature, but that was just too easy, and frankly also too predictable.
Had a few laughs, predicted most of the plot (was surprised one or two times) and overall enjoyed it enough. For a chic flick, it'd probably deserve about 7 stars - IF you're drunk like I was while watching it.
