We see the obalisk being used skillfully. This causes me to reach a conclusion. It's not something that is in control. It's just a keyboard! It does what you tell it to do. The whole nature of the show changes from this perspective.
Too bad the tough guy settler doesn't question HOW the defenses were breached, or he would try to extract the information from the skinrider.
I haven't seen the next episode, maybe that's what happens and the show goes in a different direction from now on.... The humans are in charge now!
