When I watched this on its original broadcast, I was young and in love, and lost myself in the romance and comedy.

Fifteen years and a divorce later, it’s so much more difficult not to wish Gavin’s dad would tell his neurotic wife should stop running off with sentences that aren’t hers and overreacting to imagined snobberies and slights.
(Yes I know it’s a comedy, but... )

Gavin proves the Oedipus Complex to be correct with his choice of Stacey.

She couldn’t quite figure out why he suddenly changed his tone while on the phone to her.
Why he suddenly switched and began talking about work... come on Stacey...

Instead she skydives to the conclusion that he’s dumping her.
Instead of telling her to grow up, he jumps like the lovesick puppy he is.

He’s made a rod for his own back right there. You mark my words...
