They did it. My favorite comedic panel (https://imgur.com/9ofYhiE) in all its glory. Positively surprised as well that this episode feels more well put together than the last one in terms of direction, Shouji Ikeno seems to be more comfortable with working with action bits which are more limited in terms of animation while also adding other elements such as backstories of the characters. The drawings of Spinner were very strong throughout as well despite the complicated design.
I find Spinner to be a tragic character. Isolated from society and without any dreams of his own he latched onto this fantasy that he could join Shigaraki on an epic quest to realize Shigaraki's dream. And now he (and the rest of the league) are at a point of no return. Without realizing how far he already has gone he willingly gave away his critical thinking to AFO and allowed himself to be taken advantage of like a puppet.
We also get some worldbuilding here expanding on the discrimination based on your quirk. One interesting thing is also how the heteromorphs attack Rock Lock saying he can't understand how they feel despite being a black person, which does imply that quirk discrimination is strong enough to make previous forms of discrimination rather insignificant in comparison.
I enjoyed Shoji's backstory, it's short but effective. I find it moving how Shoji, despite the treatment he received, doesn't blindly turn to revenge. His background and his motivation helped to flesh out how holding society accountable for discrimination is valid and should be constantly worked on. Still, there are better ways than attacking a hospital full of civilians. As Shoji said, it will effectively set back society by 30 years, as it would simply feed the racist and discriminatory ideas and concepts which need to be fought against in society. Discrimination and racism is an issue which can't be solved in one generation. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I always enjoy when MHA takes side characters from the class who seemed rather uninteresting and fleshes out nicely what their background and core motivation are, just like how they did it with Kirishima.
