I have to agree with the others that season 3 wasn't the best out of them. I never skip through episodes even if the show comes to a stale, but this season I found myself skipping almost an entire episode... It was such a tasteless filler. And if I really think about it, they ruined the very good concept of "giving the passengers hope in order to keep peace" while on this scientific esperiment by making Andre immediately want to drop the idea after realising the inexplicable visions of the tree were a picture in a calendar?? really??? I felt it was very dumb and very anti-climatic especially after introducing those all throughout the season. And that besides the very-dragged-out story-telling technique of falling into a coma and having to "resolve" an inner fear.
Just like Alex, I too was desperately clinging to the idea that Melanie was still alive because this actress completely carried this show. I was so completely compelled to her from the very beginning. For some reason, that was not the reason with Sean Bean, even though I find him to be a great actor. Maybe I just don't like him in negative roles? Or I don't like the character of Wilford? I know we're not supposed to root for him since they make him out to be the bad guy from the very start, but I would've liked to root for him in secret. That's what makes a great villain I think. Or at least have some sympathy towards him. The only time that was happening was for a brief moment when Audrey was pulling him to be the great big bad once again when he was supposed to be a vegetable. And then that's exactly what happened. And Audrey suddenly became good again?? I hate the character of Audrey and how they played her out honestly.
As for the actor of Andre Layton, I didn't think at first that I didn't like his acting. But at the same time I couldn't care less about his character's child and that whole storyline. I just find him to be the cool guy you go out to have a beer with.
What I really enjoyed though were:
- some of the characters I really started to root for, like Ruth, Alex and Till
- following the 'pirate train' around for their journey of scientific research
- the resistance and Ruth's and Pike's storylines
- how everything seems to fall into place
- the ending to the big conflict of the season ie finally not going to war when life is so precious
- oh and that b*tch finally died! in such a satisfying way!!

There are good guys, there are bad guys, and then, there is Layton. There's nobody more egocentric and selfish than him, with the plus that all his decision are covered by the shadow of 'the benefit of the train', even those decisions that affects all and are consulted with none.
The only thing saving him from being left outside to die is his story (logically already written) full of unexpected bursts of luck.
