Spinning Out

Season 1

Loaded with clichés and stereotypes. Misunderstandings, miscommunications, stupid decisions and motivations (or lack thereof) abound.

The first half of the season looked promising, but the second half went in a completely different direction. It was too much drama for drama's sake.

Kat grated on my nerves more often than not. Serena's actress clearly lacks acting skills, which made every scene she was in cringeworthy. Dasha was such a delight to watch. She's easily my favourite character and the actress did a great job.

Doesn't fully take advantage of the sport it covers; I was hoping it'd be a bit more like Make It Or Break It but I nevertheless guiltily enjoyed the teen drama aspects- like we stepped into the world of Secret Life of an American Teen but from more of a gritty Dare Me angle ( and Spinning was released in the same week as Dare Me.) The lovely Kaya Scodelario is almost as fun and engaging to watch here as she was as Effy in Skins, with January Jones playing the bipolar mother. The show deals with mental health issues in a way that's gripping but respectful.

After I finished it, I realised it gave me a vibe of Ginny &Georgia (problematic mother and relationships). I could not stop watching the show. A little bit of too much drama and misunderstaning but altoughter it was a great show. Almost everyone had some kind of problem and I feel sorry for them not getting a nice closure due to the show cancellation.

This was an excellent series! From start to finished I absolutely adored it! The characters were developed well, and the skating was simple eye candy. The ending certainly took me by surprise and I really hope there is a second season to continue these character's lives!
