Bambi 1942

Like 'Dumbo', which was released a year prior, I'm not a huge fan of 'Bambi'. This is certainly the better of the two, though it still isn't an astonishing film to me.

The animation here is back to the level you'd expect, it largely still holds up even today. The voices behind the screen aren't massively improved, though Peter Behn is superb as Young Thumper; he has one great quote.

Plot-wise is where my gripes are. Take out the infamous event that everyone knows about and you're left with a fairly plain premise. With that said, I will note that on this rewatch I do recognise it's more of a coming-of-age story rather than anything else.

I'd prefer a more substantial storyline, as opposed to something that only tugs on the heartstrings; which isn't incredibly hard to do, especially with animals.

I previously rated this 2*, which was (albeit marginally) too harsh. It's an OK film, one for the family.
