There is nothing worse than a show that builds itself around cleverness that turns out to actually be very dumb.
I was excited going into the first episode - great cast, great premise, great genre - but my excitement quickly turned sour as I realized the show has very poor writing.
SPOILERS AHEAD Nothing adds up here. People make ridiculous choices to drive the plot forward and escalate the situation because apparently the writers couldn't come up with anything more reasonable. You are asked to believe a man would sacrifice his life to protect a pedo, but would kill am innocent woman to protect his son. You are asked to believe that a man would be so naive as to think that being convicted of being a pedo would somehow "protect" his family (not to mention the impact it wouldhave on his community, their faith, and his religion in general). You are asked to believe carbon monoxide poisoning makes people murderous.
It's a huge bummer. With better writing this show could be so fun, and so good, but as is it's just kinda shit. With Moffat as writer, I shouldn't be surprised.
