The Menu 2022

The Menu is a movie I knew nothing about before going in, and was completely wrong about what the plot was going to be.
Now, the actual story is simple, but I can't talk about it without giving away what this is. That's fine, it's just one of those movies that doesn't have a lot going on.
It does have some good moments, and on a technical level, this is fantastic. However, it doesn't go anywhere, and left me with a feeling of "oh, is that it? What was the point?"
An important note here is that the movie is not horror. No, it is a very dark comedy. It does have some bloody moments, though there is never a sense of dread.
What may be most surprising about The Menu is that it is not an A24 film, because it totally seems like one. Take that as you will.
My biggest problem with the movie is that it is clearly trying to "say something," but I was never clear on what or why.
The message I got was so shallow, that I was hoping for a third act where my mind would be blown, showing that I entirely misunderstood what I thought was going on. Nope.
I just don't get why this was made or for whom.
If this would have been presented as a deadly-serious horror movie, I think it would have worked, but not this.
