Eternals as a movie has a lot of juice to give which unveils on a rewatching time. I loved the movie on cinema and my second watch on Disney+ as made me admire the movie even more. Also Eternals has maybe the best MCU soundtrack because it resounds after the movie and it's unforgettable.
I can safely say that it's the first Marvel movie I really liked since Endgame. I love these characters, and the filmography is really beautiful. I'm really excited to see more of this in the future of the MCU. Although I can't help feeling that there's something wrong with the rhythm of the story. Did I expect better? Yes. Did I enjoy what I get? Hell yeah.
I really enjoyed this movie. I watched it at 2am and could easily have fallen asleep but the pacing of the movie was great, the story was satisfying and it wasn't until it finished that I realised it had been over 2 and a half hours long.
Do I like MCU films, yes, but I found Shang-Chi to be a one watch wonder whereas I can see me watching this multiple times and looking forward to both the sequel and follow on films that it sets up within phases 4 & 5.
It's entertaining but very lame when a character of an advance civilization with super power can't even speak.
Better than I expected, but still the same formula we've seen before (but with a slightly better angle)
WOW..JUST....WOW....
THE FACT I'VE JUST WITNESSED THE FIRST MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE SEX SCENE
AND ETERNALS WERE THE FIRST TO DO IT.
OKAY I GUESS THE UNIVERSE REALLY IS EXPANDING.
AM COOL WITH THAT
just caught me off guard for a moment, all good though
"I Liked It"
NOTHING MORE TO SAY I HAVEN'T
ALREADY SAID IN MY
IN-DEPTH FIRST REVIEW.
STILL A 8/10
SERSI IS STILL MY FAVOURITE,
SECONDLY IT'S MAKKARI.
SIDE NOTE SHANG-CHI AND HIS TEN RINGS IS DEFINITELY TIED IN WITH ETERNALS COS I'M SURE HIS TEN RINGS ARE SENDING THAT SIGNAL TO THEM AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE IS OUT THEIR IN DEEP SPACE. ALSO
MS MARVELS BANGLE IS TIED IN WITH
THE 10 RINGS, SO THIS MAKES THINGS
VERY INTERESTING FOR FUTURE
MCU ENTRIES.
I still stand by what I said SHANG-CHI
Is still the better movie and the best MCU movie of 2021
10/10.
But I am very excited how they introduced
"Mahershala Ali"
"The New Blade"
At the mid credit scene,
And Kevin Feige had confirmed that was
actually Mahershala's voice speaking.
I look forward to seeing what else Eternals
have in store for us in the future.
Did Thanos delay the Emergence and did
The Avengers put it back on track after the events of Endgame. Is that what I'm getting from Eternals,
Going to need some time to process that one....
To be continued....

THE ETERNALS WILL RETURN
After multiple views
now and past all the low scores and
drama surrounding it
I really enjoy the 26th entry into
The MCU.
Yes it took me a little longer
to warm to them and be invested with their
going-on's
Just because I love
The Avengers so
very very much and
The Asguardians of the Galaxy .
But with that being said by the end of the
2h 36m The "Eternals" had won me over and I cared about their outcomes and safety. Also I never thought it dragged through the running time.
did it have flaws Yes,
& Yes it did slowdown, Yes their was quite, quite
a lot of story dump but I let that go
(this time) just because it was their first movie, we had so much to unpack and they were expanding the universe with them so this was acceptable
and nowhere
near a deal breaker.
I will say I was a little pissed that they didn't help the Avengers fight Thanos
& the explanation was said then brushed over,
which I saw coming a mile away,
I expected more, especially as they change all worlds and civilizations with their abilities and technologies so it just made the reason bull-crap even more so
but that's just my
Two cents. The movie's Awesomness on top of awesome, with lots to enjoy,
This seemed like a proper Marvel movie with meaning and purpose. It looks bloody gorgeous and epic with something happening to hold your interest and this is definitely a welcome addition to THE MCU
and I can't wait to
see more- in the sequel planned.
8/10
IF "YOU" are a MARVEL
FAN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "YOU"
TO VIEW IT YOURSELF.
THE UNIVERSE IS EXPANDING
let your mind do also
Your in safe hands with Marvel.

I will say SHANG-CHI
Is the better one of the 2
What an epic Awesomness
of a movie that one is.
And The Best
MCU movie I've seen in 2021.
A very very strong 10/10
Wow...just....wow
Now that's how you do Epic
and then some, I got goosebumps and chills
at the same time with that ending
from that movie.
This is an honest, spoiler-free review coming from your average fan (not a critic):
I just saw this new marvel film, and I have to say... it's no where near as bad as the critics make it out to be.
Yes there is a lot of dialogue. But it gives the characters a chance to shine and for scenes to breathe.
People call this film dense. I would disagree. Yes there is a fair bit of plot and history told, however I would say that other mcu films have simply much simpler plotlines most of the time.
There are moments when things are just about to become exciting, and then it is interrupted with more dialogue which instantly kills the suspension.
There are a number of plot twists in this film, and some unexpected things happen that I wouldn't have seen coming.
This film has a slow burn, but sometimes that's a good thing. Would I have liked more action? Yes. Was I unhappy with the action we do get? No.
I will admit, going into this film I was expecting a masterpiece, and while I wouldn't quite call it that, its definitely a well-made film, marvel or not.
Oh. And expect to have to do some reading at the very beginning. Kinda reminds me of a classic Star Wars opening crawl.
To be enjoyed like a long, rambling fantasy novel -- not like a punchy action flick (though it is sometimes also that).
The reaction to this movie has been a “love it” or “hate it” outcry. I think the dividing line of responses is whether or not it fits the Marvel mega-action template and if that is okay or not. Just to deal with that question out of the gate, this does not fit the Marvel cookie cutter. There are a variety of differences. It is diverse in both casting and subject matter. The cast is international, multinational and multi-ethnic. We have our first openly gay superhero. We have our first hero who is deaf. We have our first hero to struggles with their mental health. All artfully and beautifully presented, in my opinion. This is not a single character’s origin story. It is 10 characters’ origin story spanning over 7,000 years, plus the introduction of 3 distinct and new species: Celestials, Eternals and Deviants. It also acknowledges superheroes from other universes, like the potshots at DC’s Superman. There are also some Marvel staple components, humour, brilliant CGI, fight scenes and world weaving. This film is also beautiful, in its casting, cinematography, graphics and music. The story is rich and the immense timeline is artfully woven into small bites. There is also a deeper treatment of relationships and some mature but tasteful scenes. The draw for me was Marvel and the stellar cast, especially Gemma Chan, whose career I’ve been following for a long time, now (do yourself a favour and binge her filmography). I have to confess that when I left the theatre I wasn’t sure how I felt about the movie. Then, I heard Rotten Tomatoes gave it the lowest of all ratings for a Marvel movie (49%) and the critics who saw early releases were brutal. But, I also read the positive reviews by ordinary theatre goers and in writing this, I’ve decided to give this film an 8 (great) out of 10 and, personally, I look forward to seeing it again. [Superhero Action Adventure]
Garbage i actually paid for it at the theatre
Unfortunately I brought the family to watch it
And i felt awful and awkward explaining to the children the man on man kissing and all that went with the movie , I regret watching it with my family
That Pakistani actor suck. I hate Bollywood garbage.
anyways stan eternals and watch brie larson’s 2018 speech.
also fuck rotten tomatoes.
Its different from everything marvel have ever done. The ''liberal agenda'' is just a 5 second kiss. The characters are amazing, and i love Makkari and Kingo with all my heart. Loved it. 9/10.
I'll be honest, I didn't feel anything watching this. The action, comedy, drama was all bland. The post credits set up more movie's, obviously, but the magic Marvel once had is gone. I'm loving the Disney shows they make, but if this is the standard of movies going forward, I won't be going to the cinema like I used to.
The Eternals would have had a much easier time if they just had Mantis on their team...
Well, I liked Moana's version better. Te Fiti! :joy:
Far! Too! Dark!
Could the director not afford lighting? Watching in 4K on Disney+ in a darkened room with my TV on "vivid" and I still couldn't make out most of the scenes.
From what I heard though, it seemed interesting but trying too hard. Sersi says they didn't take part in the Thanos events because they don't involve themselves in human conflicts but I'm pretty sure Thanos was in conflict with more than just humans. The nods to the Avengers were OK but name dropping Batman and Superman? Seriously? Also, the love triangle between Jon Snow, Rob Stark and Cerci? ;)
I had low expectations after months of reading negative things about it but I found it more engaging that the previous Marvel movie with the Asian guy, which felt very generic despite the different setting (for the MCU).
Although the villain felt like a generic werewolf-like creature. Third act was weak, as usual with these movies.
The pop star at the end was ridiculous and distracting. Like Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones.
Nicely shot but personality-free. The story is both too grandiose for it's runtime but also too meandering to justify it's run time if that makes sense. Not the all-out mess that some portray it as but not great either
If anything it just made me pine for S3 of The Boys to come out already.
While the movie was pretty predictable, that mid credit stinger definitely took the film in one direction that I wasn't expecting
The Deviants look exactly like the aliens from Edge of Tomorrow
Also, Arishem looked very similar to Ultron, like I thought that statue in their ship was Ultron at first lol
The most human and beautiful of all the Marvel franchise movies to date. Many reviews suggest it was rushed, or out of character for Marvel, but i found it rich and moving, with blisteringly energetic battles and real palpable character tension. I can't wait for the next part of the story.
Eternals really changed the whole MCU. This is a new take on a whole new mcu film without the same old formula. And I kinda like how divisive and deep, dark they went for this. There's so much complexity in each character that I know people can identify with, it's everything the other mcu films could've been. Fuck rotten tomatoes.
Eternals, the film where Robb Stark and Jon Snow find themselves in a love triangle with Sersi.
Besides that piece of ironic casting, I’m not seeing the hook with this film.
I’ve seen some people arguing that it’s boring because of its slow pace.
It’s not, it’s boring because it’s an empty wet fart of a film that doesn’t have one ounce of personality.
It feels like one of those long, drawn out, indulgent college lectures where you’re constantly asking yourself what the point of learning this stuff is, and you’re still not sure by the end of it.
The cinematography is great, it looks like a Denis Villeneuve film with its use of natural light, but that’s pretty much the only thing I can praise about it.
Most of these films are entertaining because of their interesting characters, comedy and ocassionally the action (if it doesn’t look like artificial crap).
This film doesn’t really have characters in the first place.
It tries to balance 10 leads, which results in most of these characters being reduced to archetypes.
Most of them have one or two quirks, but none of them develop into well rounded or engaging characters.
Even some of the acting, which is the one thing these films usually get right, is a little wonky and one note.
It tries to compensate for its lack of action with drama, which I’d welcome if it wasn’t the same, generic ‘monster bad, we have to fight them’ shtick we’ve seen time and time again.
The philosophical questions that it tries to pose feel tacked on and have no meat to them, not unlike a Zack Snyder DC film.
There’s also so much handholding in this, the amount of exposition is kinda insane.
You don’t need to dumb your film down to the point where your exposition dump that starts the film repeats itself two more times during other dialogue scenes.
The third act, as expected nowadays, looks like plastic and is filled with effects that already look dated.
Is it that hard to give us something subversive like Doctor Strange again, and to stop having these fake and obnoxious cgi battles?
Then you wouldn’t have to underpay your visual effects artists to animate a battle for which most people close their eyes during.
There’s still one good thing to come out of this: we can now definitively reject this narrative (which was floating around in some circles) that critics will go easy on a film because of diverse casting, the director being an Oscar favorite, the brand or a film being ‘woke’.
So at least there’s that, though I wouldn’t be surprised if these morons find a way to twist it into their narrative regardless.
I can already see some of them claiming that critics hated it because there wasn’t enough gay sex in it.
Frankly though, I agree: where was the sex scene between Angelina Jolie and Gemma Chan?
3.5/10
I think this movie was great, I don’t understand why it had low ratings at all.
It’s a long movie but I didn’t find myself bored at any point. Lots of people in the cinema were laughing at the funny bits too.
There’s some great new characters and you feel for them all. Also I find it nice to see that Angelina Jolie isn’t cast as the main character, as you’d kind of expect with a big name like that. She did a great job in her role, but it was nice to be able to see the other lesser known actors shine.
Im excited to see what else is to come from the Eternals.
Cinematic Eternals is lightly based on the comic book of Jack Kirby, perhaps the most important man in American comics, from whose pen the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Hulk, Captain America and hundreds of other superheroes were created. heroes of the Marvel Comics universe but also of DC. And i say lightly because for the sake of the lgbtq+ MESSAGE, the nationalities, genders and sexual preferences of all the heroes CHANGED while others were "created exclusively for the film" such as the hero Phastos. These money maker companies need to learn to respect the artist!
World Premiere Impressions: Ugh, Chloe Zhao was a terrible choice for director. How she paces a movie made this feel excruciatingly long. This movie is also very DC in that its so visually dark, depressing, and takes itself so seriously, something Kevin Feige said would never happen to a Marvel movie. Basically everything you hated about Nomadland is in this... Now a handful of bright spots: some decent performances, especially Kumail and his assistant, they saved this movie from being a disaster. The Eternals overall are fine, but its really difficult to care about them considering their origin and nature. I also hated the design of the deviants. I was hoping to see things that had some semblance of Thanos as he is a Deviant in the comics. It appears they are treating him specifically as a "titan". The mindless animalistic Deviants in this are boring, uninteresting.
The least I was expecting from Eternals (2021) was the two conflicting visions: the one from Chloé Zhao and the one from Marvel, but this movie is mostly just the usual Marvel flick. Ben Stiller could direct this at it will still be the same movie... Well, maybe at least would be funnily ridiculous.
Eternals (2021) replaces sci-fi mumbo jumbo with existential mumbo jumbo. It is certainly not the first Marvel film that deals with "deep" topics, just the one that does it the most boringly. It's mostly filled with the most common places about "existentialism" in film.
In comparison with Jack Kirby's The Eternals (1976-1977) —which I read in preparation for this, but don't think it has condition my view of the movie—, while this "Zhao's Eternals" has a "serious" tone filled with dull and plastic dialogues, full of exposition; Kirby's nonsensical, fantastical, yet light, style, suceeds in having dialogue that actually feels human, and thus, gets compelling characters.
Where was this group of "diverse" heroes when Thanos attacked in Infinity War and Endgame? One of the many plot holes that this film has, added to the boring general plot. Without a doubt a waste of time, and this confirms that Marvel is no longer in its best days.
why didn't you guys help fight Thanos?
we were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts
really so Thanos is human now hahahahah poor marvel
this movie is a long documentary, full of family drama featuring 2 people from Game of Thrones who have PTSD from its last season. The characters in this movie just cannot decide what to do with their boring lives when you're an Eternal, and so this movie shines best with its fight scenes because its a Marvel movie, when really it could have just been another season of Shameless
Everyone who voted this down are just sad pissbabies who don’t realise that diversity and inclusion are good things.
This movie was a little slow paced and the lighting was too dark, egregiously so. But honestly they were my only criticisms.
It’s a good set up for wider cosmic threats, but it is its own self contained mythology and character exploration. So enjoy it for its self contained nature.
Fantastically acted, brilliant historically tie ins, wonderful representation, good effects. Jemma Chan really shines. Basically it’s not the best movie Marvel has produced, but I really enjoyed it, and it’s a great look at things to come.
Extra points for Marvels first open queer representation on screen. No Loki doesn’t count. A queer interracial (Black+Muslim) relationship with a child. Also all this race representation is delicious.
First overall impression: As a standalone ? Why not. But as what appears to be the lead into the next big phase, pretty disappointing.
It has the defects of what used to be the DC style.
1) First It's trying to introduce too much too fast
Too many characters. Most of their powers are not so interesting that you would identify them with it, and some are not even named before pretty late in the movie. Sure it's more original than having an intro scene for each, but with that many I'm not sure that was the good choice.
The whole background of Marvel cosmogony. It is weirder, less known, more difficult to explain, harder to relate to, and less in sync with the more realistic tone they tried to give to the movies. Thor was already a bit hard, this is another level.
2) And then: name dropping.
A lot of basically out of nowhere references to Avengers here and there. HEY HO, WE ARE IN THE SAME FRANCHISE, DON'T FORGET, PLEASE LOVE US!
Note: They also name drop Batman and Superman, which is a bit weird.
It's still done better than in DC movies though.
So let's see the characters:
Serci Very bland as a main character. The whole "Am I fit to lead ?" trope is boring. Power is pretty unfit for action, luckily a lot of things fall on her.
Ikaris Most interesting character as an Eternal but we basically know nothing of his human life, betrayal is a bit expected but still works. Power is a sub Superman copy, but at least works very well in action scenes.
Sprite There's a bit of a story there too though it's developed a bit late. A non combat power that is under used.
Ajak Not really interesting as a character or a leader. Not sure how her power was supposed to be any help in the mission.
Kingo The comic relief, most developed character, best human story and still useful in a fight. The movie is a bit long sometimes, he's what makes it bearable.
Thena Mainly just the focused warrior, not much interest there. Specially as her violence issues conveniently disappear as soon as the one that stopped them dies... Real fighting power, but doesn't render too well in action scenes.
Gilgamesh Really cool character. Very basic power and just as luckily as for Serci, a lot of huge enemies have a tendency to blindly run at him so that he can punch them.
Phastos The most human, mainly for the funny interactions with his son. Weird power, but looks like Tony Stark using Jarvis.
Druig Could have been interesting, but seems boring, maybe comes from the actor, not sure. Another power that has no interest for their mission.
Makkari Almost unseen. Power is Flash, so not much more interesting.
The story itself is pretty straightforward, they go around the world gathering the troops. A big ellipsis on how they travel and never interact with human population though. Same with the main Deviant, that just swim from Canada to London I suppose ? And that is just conveniently here when needed for storytelling.
I think the Deviants are supposed to be more humanlike, with intelligence, personalities and powers, but I guess that would make the Eternals' initial job a little less palatable. They look ok as beasts, but even the one that becomes more sentient is just a detail in the end, and its final fight and death is very anti climatic. A bit of a waste.
The flashbacks are ok, but not always interesting. Several tend to drag the movie for too long.
An interesting point though, is the final moral dilemma. Was it really ok to save the Earth by killing a Celestial ? Not sure.
Action tends to be a bit too fast, with the camera moving around too much, while their power do not make for the most interesting fights. It's however very well done, as usual.
Post credits scenes show well that this isn't meant to be a standalone, but compared to previous phases, can't say it's that exciting.
I have no idea what people don't like in this movie. I f*cking loved it. It's much more darker and deeper in story than some usual marvel movies.
And for cinematography, it's top notch by shooting on real locations rather than in studio. Chloe Zhao has done a commendable job.
I know it's not a 10/10 movie but to lift it's rating I have to rate it 10.
God-like beings that lived through the whole history of mankind… and they’re as flat and boring as my pancake pan. All but Kingo. Dude had moves.
A Bollywood movie with some superhero scenes
Feels like The CW doing a film. The bloody things never stops going. At least watching it at home on Disney+ you can break it up over a few days. Struggled staying awake in the cinema. Dull
It beginning to look a lot like Justice League. Did DC sponsor this movie?
i am a bit worried after reading many comments. you cannot make good movies without character building. just dropping a ton of new characters in a random franchise movie does not make a good film. the only character i might wanna see again had 1 minute screen time plus after after credit scene. when kit harrington said something about his family and a secret, i really wanted to know what its about. but anybody else? not at all. the plot holes dont seem to bother any die hard bias fan apparently too.
i say this: they should cancel eternals 2 (+x) if planned and animate their story. serious waste of money, low quality script. even lower than the pure milking tv shows they made so far. im shocked how low it is at this point.
Totally don't get it why this movie is so hated...
I wouldn't call it perfect, but it's definitely a well-made film
so, maybe i missed it, but did they ever mention how long they've been on Earth?
also, did the Lannisters send their regards?
A misfire for the MCU due to a number of flaws including the fact that for a film all about focusing on it’s characters only one or two of them are good but nonetheless a fun experience with of course some of the best visual effects the franchise has to offer. A very mediocre film.
This was film that was very poorly made. It's character where bland and uninteresting its plot was boring and everything apart from the visuals was pretty subpar. The Eternals is a great and interesting comic book series and for the life of me I will never understand why they made it into a boring almost three hour long film that I just wanted to end. This film needed the Guardians of the Galaxy treatment. It needed someone to find a way to make these unknown characters into house hold names. This movie is failure in so many ways I would have been contempt if it was just another MCU movie but unfortunately was so much worse than that.
Not terrible but not the best. Most exciting part to me was probably the post-credit with Blade / Black Knight reveal. (yikes!)
How to make a boring film about super powered demigods? If you need to learn how, you can watch this. After all the success and good will Marvel has built, this gigantic misfire makes you just...sad.
I always complain about MCU films not taking the time to be serious and not having enough substance. This film definitely tried to counteract that imbalance by being about more than scenes strung together by jokes. It has 2 and a half hours of runtime to introduce a bunch of new characters and take us through centuries of development... And it managed to make me not care about a single one of them.
Even the kid wanting to live and die as an human had zero gravitas coz they'd hardly spent any time showing us her struggles. Just an offhand comment here and there and illusion in the bar at the start. No actual struggle or emotion in any of them. You have to mentally fill in the blanks yourself from other similar takes like Claudia from Interview with the Vampire.
Overall very lacklustre. More z listers introduced at the end and Harry fucking Styles? Has Marvel finally jumped the shark?
It was okay, but it was all over thy place the first hour. Way way too much time spent on thy back story and not enough time on the infractions. Maybe the next one will be better, but for a marvel film this really wasn't that great.
biggest disappointment of 2021,That's what you get from counting on mrs one time director chloe zhao to write and direct this movie and ofcourse she had to pick the cold emotionless Gemma Chan for the lead,i was actually rooting for the deviance, the celestial and even satan to kill her so i won't be seeing her in future projects (that's in case Eternals actually ever returned)
PS.i feel sorry for Angelina useless part,i think she spoke like 2 or 3 times in the whole movie
I'm starting to think that the MCU's expansive success has some downsides, such as when they need to add on fresh new characters. I can't help but wonder if every new MCU superhero will either have a post-Thanos origin or will have a conversation like the one we see in this film where someone asks "Why didn't you help with Thanos?". It starts to feel restrictive, like the writers have to be careful to color within the lines so as not to step on the toes of any other films. In addition, I can't help but think of Obi-Wan's line in Phantom Menace: There's always a bigger fish. This relates to power creep and the need to ramp up the stakes. One villain threatens the city, the next the world, then the universe, then the timeline, then all universes and all timelines. If you think too much about everything we've seen so far in the MCU, you quickly start to wonder how some of these elements and characters can coexist. And even if they can coexist, they still might retroactively diminish the weight and stakes of previous films. This was kind of the case with the Eternals and the introduction of Celestials and the literal birth of the universe.
Moving past how it fits within the MCU, Eternals is not a bad film. It is perhaps overly ambitious, with quite a large ensemble for an introductory film. The runtime matches this ambition, attempting to give all of the characters room to breathe. This is done to varying degrees of success, but luckily no outright failures. The humor from Kumail Nanjiani and his valet was appreciated. While I've never been a huge Jolie fan, I thought the conflict surrounding her character was interesting and her relationship with Ma Dong-seok's Gilgamesh was a nice element. I would say the weakest link would be Lauren Ridloff's Makkari, and not from an acting perspective, but because her character seemed to be the only one who doesn't have any real arc. Overall, it's not the expansive cast that drags things down to middling, but rather the muddy plot and less than compelling lore (e.g. everything toward the end about the uni-mind and sharing power was pretty eye roll inducing). Some of the conflict between the characters also feels forced and the merits of the dispute between the Eternals isn't exactly compelling. The action is generally solid and might be the biggest beneficiary of the expansive cast, as the diverse power set on display is a nice way to spice up the set pieces.
Fucking hypocrites.
Druig has a problem with the spanish exterminating the Maya, but the Maya sacrificing other humans wasn't a problem?
Well, I guess if its religion its ok... Fucking hypocrites!!!
This was an OK MCU movie overall. I liked the overall story and cinematography, homever my issues lie with really, really, really bad casting choices. Saw someone below comment that this felt like The CW trying to do a movie, yep, that's exactly what it was.
Never in my life have I seen people so unfit to play a character get cast in such a huge franchise solely to push diversity down everybody's throats.
Kingo was not funny and the guy playing him was so obviously cast because of his race, no comedic bone in his entire body, he made me fucking cringe at every joke attempt and was one of the biggest mistakes of the movie. I have absolutely no idea where he was in the final fight, I thought he died but then he shows up again in the epilogue.
Thena was supposed to draw simpathy for her condition but an aging Angelina Jolie was not the person to do that, instead of feeling sorry for her I just wondered why the hell aren't they locking her up somewhere or killing her.
Gilgamesh was a cool character played with absolutely no emotion or effort, guy got cast because he was big I guess? and Asian
Phastos was an interesting character with a decent casting choice but of course they had him be married to a guy that calls him habibi, of fucking course.
Makkari - I liked the actress in The Walking Dead. she is really talented and she has all my sympathy but a synthetic being created by the literal Gods of the entire Universe being deaf made absolutely no fucking sense.
Wow I heard Eternals was bad, but I never expected it to be That Bad! WTF Marvel!?
I cannot point to any redeeming features about this film.
It's Boring, Boring, Boring and then some more boring.
Pretty bad. As soon the deviants absorbed Gilgamesh, they should have known that the eternals were simply doing the bidding of the celestials. At that point, the deviants would have stopped blaming the eternals, and joined forces against the celestials. That would have made the plot make sense. The deviants were essentially pointless to the plot.
Also now begins the excruciating process of fitting the marble statue, the big quake, eternals on TV, and other such events into the MCU timeline and other MCU movies. Sucks at this point. Completely unnecessary movie. Reminds me of that IMAX inhuman special. Marginally better though, to be fair.
Like the 'nice' kid in school you know is going to get bullied but you don't care enough about to stick up for.
This in an epic film, but in length only. Sadly, Chloé Zhao was not able to infuse a sense of grandeur in this film that demands majesty and gets only lip service.
(Bonus points for the gay black superhero kissing his husband.)
It was long and boring imo. Could be the worst MCU movie.
I have watched every Film based on Marvel Comic's MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe) Film and non MCU (Captain America,Punisher,Ghost Rider,Howard the Duck etc)
I honestly thought this was the slowest 'Marvel' film I've seen to date, so slow I fell asleep halfway through.
Boring. Just over the half of the movie and I don’t care of any of the character, I’m not interest of the plot and I don’ t understand what the movie want to tell. Worst marvel movie ever seen
Wow, I really liked the story, the plot and the characters. Each of them is well written and their interactions are beautiful.
A good Marvel movie.
Can't wait to see the next step in the MCU.
Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani? Random deaf woman? What happened, Marvel, after juggling a kajillion heroes in a zillion movies and series you finally ran out of hip young actors to use?
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU PROBABLY WONT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)
@ trakt pls make private comments/notes possible:hearts:
6.0 - 6.5, I really don't know how I feel about this movie, meh would describe it best I guess..
-stunning visuals/effects
-points for diversity (especially for showing ASL, always love that)
-Homelander is that u? why are dudes that have laser eyes and can fly always a holes xD
-good looking cast, but the characters didn't really grab my attention, they're kinda boring
-especially Thena, felt like they made her dull, doesn't speak much and has almost no emotion, I have to say I think its part Jolie´s "fault", isn't the most emotional actor.. but no hate to her. Sure part is prob intentional bc she lost her mind and all but I just think for a warrior goddess she should've been more fierce/fun..
-story is kinda forgettable too, lost my attention a few times, also not sure how it fits in the mcu, typical "not my movie not my problem" attitude
-only character Im kinda interested in is Eros/Starfox post credits, he could be fun, so we'll see how the next movie´s gonna be
They could have done better with a big name movie like this. The movie would also be a better off without the social and political crap they push in it.
It has a little bit of everything, but as a result, it has poor pacing.
Even so, it is quite good. It definitely feels like a setup movie given the ending is a little anticlimactic.
Count the number of times someone mentions that they’ve been around 7 thousand years, in case you don’t get it from the multiple flashbacks to different times in history the characters will repeatedly remind you. I suppose that is what people are referring to when they say this breaks Marvel conventions, because that is really the only thing that different from the other films. The same story beat consisting of your leader having ulterior motives that we’ve seen happen time and time again with Loki, Captain Marvel, Shield etc pops up here and the fact that we have to suffer through all of this back story makes most of the movie a chore. I will admit that once we have the team together there are some enjoyable moments and it ends in an interesting way, the negativity overall is overblown but it is also not a great movie, the villains look like Transformer creatures.
A sad series of random scenes stitched together to make a movie.
It's probably not a good sign when I'm perfectly happy to stop a movie and finish it on another occasion. It's probably ALSO not a good sign when I'm perfectly happy to break a movie down into THREE parts on three separate occasions. In short, this thing REALLY dragged for me. Maybe I just need a break from the Marvel formula...
Thanos was the good guy! Beside that mindblowing news the movie was just bad
The eternal are a weird bunch. None of them is actually powerful om their own.
a deaf super-powered eternal !!!
The Eternals will return, but when and where?
First, it should be noted this film is gorgeous, especially if you watch the 4k imax version on a truly large screen. Unfortunately, the visuals are only one aspect of a film. The characters were fine, if mostly one note, the action decent, if uninspired, and the plot an ok framework, even if it seemed half-finished. This would have benefited from being a Disney+ series instead of a single movie. The ending leaves you feeling unfulfilled and the various sacrifices lack weight. The one thing I did really enjoy was the "Superman vs the Justice League" action scene...err, I mean the Eternals fighting themselves scene. Beyond that and the visuals, there wasn't a ton I latched onto. I'm hoping they do more with some of these characters in the future, but as a standalone film, this wasn't great.
It was meh, story wasn't as great and it gets really dragged down by being in a pre established universe. Also game of thrones cast reunion xD
This was wayyy longer than it should be.
Wow, that was just so bad and so boring.
An inclusive proposal that reflects more on the relationships between human beings (elaborating a manual discourse on political correctness) than on the ambiguities of theology and the interaction of gods and men. It is a path consistent with Chloé Zhao's filmography, but less suggestive, weighed down by a simple and uninventive visualization of the action (wide shots). The attempt to balance between the Marvel franchise and a more serious look falls into the ridiculous.
Meh. Like other movies in today perspective. Its a "story start" for 2 hours. Now they going to make a few more movies with individual stories, after the grand finale, a last movie were the merchandising can achieve the income they want.
It would have been better if they had explored this story through Web series rather than one single movie. A series would have allowed them to explore story of each character more in depth. As of it's current state I was totally indifferent with whatever happens to the Eternals.
You know what I am intrigued by the Eternals and i absolutely care about the characters, but the movie was pretty shitty & wasn't a kick-ass one. The movie would've been great if at the least better dialogue had been written and don't get me started on the wooden chemistry between the cast. I almost thought Kingo would save the movie but it wasn't enough. Also, the soundtrack was all over the place. I will say it wasn't a typical Marvel superhero film, but you know what maybe it should've been.
Better than I heard of it!! A reminder to always watch for yourself.
It could have been a nice pilot for a show. But too much to say for a movie and look like a bad film with good actors. Pretty confusing. I liked the story, the actors are great but it is sloppy.
i cried several times during this. What a beautiful movie and a beautiful cast.
This movie is such an arduous slog. I literally was checking my watch counting the minutes til it ended. None of the characters kept me engaged at all, except Kumail's comedic parts. That is this movie's only saving grace.
Good enough. Need to watch if you want to keep up with MCU.
It's the worst superhero movie I've ever seen. Too many dialogues, waste of acting talent.
One of the big bets of Marvel's Phase 4 was Eternals, where they intended to present some of the most relevant characters of the cosmic mythology of the House of Ideas: the Eternals and the Celestials.
It was a risky bet for several reasons. To begin with, we had to introduce a dozen new characters and their development over the centuries, and all in a single film. And then there were the well-known actors and actresses, and we have already learned that this formula doesn't always work when it comes to Marvel. And finally, the director, Chloé Zhao, has no experience in telling superhero adventures.
This results in a tremendously slow story overloaded with special effects that doesn't fully develop any of the characters, falling short of different plots that could have been interesting and all bathed in an excessive romanticism that eclipses everything else.
The costume and creature designs are spectacular, and it allows for an additional new character to be introduced into the MCU, so it wasn't a total waste of time. All in all, an overly ambitious film.
Story lack sense. I just don't understand how somebody who has been doing a particular job for million of years, now suddenly decided it was all wrong and wants to rebel against it. When Ajak started explaining it was because of love, i felt my life choked out of my body! And the whole world is about to be wiped clean, where were the Avengers? They try to portray these Eternals as all powerful, but failed. They're too human like. Fragile and stupid.
Forced gay scenes. What is that? No I'm not against gay people, but it felt really forced. Like it was unnecessarily added to appease a certain group because this movie is released in an awful brain dead time for humankind.
There's an actor for every color. Do they really think back then millions of years ago there were people of different colors?! I don't understand what the movie studio is trying here!
Most of the actors do not fit into their role. Ajak, Salma Hayek, was that a joke? I couldn't take any of her scenes seriously. Athena, goddess of war, was a simple dud in this movie. I expected so much from Athena, but no, Marvel needed screen time for the "superman"!
Graphics were breathtaking and well done. But that alone won't save an all around messy film.
[Hey Marvel, if you want to learn a thing or two about how Gods really fight, watch the Immortals 2011 Movie final scene.]
Average MCU movie.. not bad, but also, there is nothing exceptional about it.
Overall pretty decent, I just consider the movie as a whole as a trailer to other movies to come.
My favorite parts were the ending scenes :eyes:
It's different from your usual MCU formula. more dialog focused and character oriented. Kudos to Marvel for doing something different
really not as bad as people claim, it’s just racists and bigots that hate this movie. it’s not marvels best but it was good nonetheless.
so there is a giant cracking out of the earths core, but its still intact? ok whatever..
i really hoped this one would be a little bit different, but the story is so weak and has so much flaws. sadly its nothing special.
I really hate whoever decided what should happen in Marvel's phase 4, looked at the Eternals and decided to make a movie instead of a TV show. This movie had an enormous potential to be an amazing TV show, but instead, what we got was a movie that crumbles under its own runtime. There are way too many characters and way too many plot lines and not enough time. And the movie is 2h30min long! But I'm not gonna lie, I liked the 1st and 2nd acts. The 1st one in particular was REALLY GOOD imo. However, once we reached the 3rd act, I realized that we had spent the whole movie trying, and failing, to get me emotionally invested in a bunch of characters instead of focusing just on 1 or 2, so I did not give a sh*t about the finale and their resolutions.
Also, the music of this movie is very boring. Get this team a theme song, please.
I actually liked this movie a lot.
First of all, I don't care about critics and sit and just watch a movie and let it in, and it felt good. Great battle scenes, good history, and some nice jokes too. Overall a 7.5/10.
Not what I expected from a Marvel movie but because of all the insanely critical reviews I had lowered my expectations and it turned out better then expected. It felt more like a Zack Snyders Justice League then it did a Marvel Movie but going a little dark isn't a bad thing
This Movie was a slow burn and had a story to tell, and I honestly enjoyed the action when it kicked. I genuinely enjoyed the plot twists in this movie that made it fun and unexpected, be sure to stay for the to scenes post credit that tie a few things together
More honest and realistic reviews on here than on social media or RT etc. I watched it on IMAX hoping it would be worth the upgrade price. As a Standalone - decent average action movie with some good characters but thin plot. I agree with other reviews this is not a good Phase 4 jump starter. I liked Druig & Makkari most and want to see more of them. The rest I can't say much without spoiling so read the other reviews which cover the same points I wish to make. I liked it but it is the weakest of all Marvel Mobv* Movies so far - I left feeling 'meh, it was ok'. I don't care who the cast is or if it has LGBT etc I want to see a story that excites me, characters that I am eager to see more of & visuals that match the way the story tells it - Eternals the strongest etc but then the powers and action doesn't show that or visually not believable. You can watch it but it is for you to decide great/good or ok but it is not bad. 6/10 on my Marvel Scale - All the others are 7+/10 so far. Some may be impressed by the romam* romance/emotions but I am used to better romance & emotional scenes in Bollywood movies. so not as impressed. The Het Sex scene is completely unnecessary and increases the rating making it inappropriate d to watch with family for no reason other than pleasei some woke demanding sex obsessed fans. Thankfully the Gay relationship was done with less in your face and so I liked that .o Subtle and slow story which I don't mind. Plot could have been better but this is a introduction movie - I think E2 will be better innsome ways.
A diverse cast of 2010s TV actors battle angry Pokemon at the behest of a giant. Then it ends.
That's about it. The action scenes are boring, the mythology is really silly and the overlong dialogue scenes are at the level of The Walking Dead.
I'm a long way from being a Marvel fanboy, but this even insulted my low bar for Marvel movies.
Bland and uninspiring. The movie is crammed with so much stuff, yet somehow still manages to have lots of boring moments. I didn't really care about any of the characters, and the plot/conflict was your typical end of the world type thing. Not a horrible movie, but certainly one of the lowest (if not the lowest) point in the MCU.
This movie was...okay. Even after watching every trailer, I really couldn't have told you what Eternals was about, so I seriously went into the theater with no expectations and no idea what I was in for. I was nervous about how they would bring together a whole new ensemble and still make the audience connect at least slightly deeper than surface-level with them. Did that happen? ...Kind of? Story-wise, I think this movie did the best it could to introduce you to so many new characters and not get bogged down by all the exposition. The problem for me was the chemistry between the actors themselves. There's some stiff dialogue in the script that doesn't do anyone any favors, and many of the relationships between characters felt so fake-- not because of the story, but because I just couldn't believe that Gemma Chan and Richard Madden actually liked each other, or that Salma Hayek was truly the respected leader of the group. A lot of people are hating critics for disliking the first Marvel movie with real inclusion and diversity, but you can have that and still not have a mind-blowing never-been-done-before type of blockbuster. That all being said, this movie is still fun, beautiful, and engaging (Kumail Nanjiani and his sidekick Harish Patel are the BEST thing ever). Even with my critiques I have still given this movie a 7 out of 10, but you won't see me putting this in my top ten Marvel movies.
People need to stop complaining about this movie. It’s not the best MCU-movie, but also not the worst by a long shot.
It has some good moments and performances and kept me interested all the way through. The cast is obviously great and it sets up a lot of future MCU-stuff, which (as a big fan) is quite valuable.
Is it perfect? Hell no! There are a few things that didn’t make that much sense and some story points that had more potential imo. But despite that, I enjoyed it a lot. I would watch this a hundred times if it means I never have to watch Thor: Dark World ever again.
There is a lot to like here for everything new and fresh to the MCU. It looks different than other superhero movies. It is a little long and paced poorly. I think there were too many characters to focus on and not enough time to focus on all of them to care. This is lower tier MCU for me but I still enjoyed it and will probably watch again.
