The promotional tie-ins were painful. I’m looking primarily at you Lexus and Kaspersky. To call it a plot is charitable. If you want to see a disaster, this is your movie.
Good acting but the story is waaaaay overkill, unfortunately i stick around to see how worse it gets and i wasn't disappointed
Watched it earlier today. We all liked it. Was it the greatest sci-fi movie? No. It was entertaining though. Yes. The action scenes were good. The ending was good. A completely different take on where I thought it was going.
Good cast and good ideas which I thought was entertaining. Good to see some big sci fi movies finally coming out.
Sometimes a film can be entertaining and terrible in equal amounts.
I reviewed this film for the Hugo-winning blog Nerds of a Feather:
www.nerds-feather.com/2022/02/moonfall-puts-disaster-in-disaster-movie.html
It was good. I enjoyed it. Shades of Armageddon. Use your sci-fi imagination and enjoy
"Moonfall," directed by Roland Emmerich, promised an epic disaster movie that would take viewers on a thrilling ride through space and time. Unfortunately, it delivered a lackluster experience riddled with clichés, a tedious storyline, and a poorly executed narrative flow.
From the outset, "Moonfall" struggles to find its footing. The premise, while intriguing on paper – the moon is knocked out of orbit and is hurtling towards Earth – quickly devolves into a series of predictable tropes. The film relies heavily on the familiar formula of a motley crew of heroes coming together to save the world, a plot device we've seen countless times before in disaster films.
The characters themselves are walking stereotypes: the disgraced astronaut seeking redemption, the conspiracy theorist whose wild theories turn out to be true, and the reluctant hero thrown into a situation beyond their control. These archetypes are not inherently problematic, but "Moonfall" does nothing to develop them beyond their most basic traits, leaving the audience with flat, uninspiring protagonists.
One of the film's most glaring issues is its pacing. "Moonfall" oscillates between sluggish exposition and rushed action sequences, never finding a satisfying rhythm. The buildup to the impending catastrophe is slow and plodding, bogged down by excessive technobabble and convoluted subplots. When the action finally kicks in, it feels disjointed and haphazard, as if the filmmakers were trying to cram too much into a limited runtime.
The script is another major letdown. Laden with cheesy dialogue and uninspired one-liners, it fails to engage or evoke any genuine emotion. The attempts at humor fall flat, and the dramatic moments lack the necessary gravitas to make an impact. Instead of feeling immersed in a high-stakes adventure, viewers are left rolling their eyes at the predictable twists and turns.
The special effects, while occasionally impressive, cannot save "Moonfall" from its narrative shortcomings. The visual spectacle of the moon's approach and the resulting chaos on Earth is overshadowed by the film's overall lack of originality and excitement. What should have been awe-inspiring scenes of cosmic destruction become mere background noise to an otherwise uninspired story.
In conclusion, "Moonfall" is a celestial disaster that fails to live up to its potential. Mired in clichés, hindered by a dull script, and hampered by poor pacing, it is a film that squanders its intriguing premise. For those seeking a thrilling and engaging disaster movie, "Moonfall" will likely prove to be a disappointing and forgettable experience.
oof, man what a trip. Its so laughably bad, each dialog is worse than the other, looks written by a emotionless robot. Get a group of friends, drink and watch this mess
Overall, the dialogue let me down the most. The sfx and vfx work was amazing. The story was interesting when you don't think too hard. The acting was alright. I think I've seen them all play better before, so that's why I blame the generic, ai generated, wobble bobble dialogue. The story is just stupid, that goes without saying, but sometimes you're just in the mood for a big budget, nonsense blockbuster. Finally, I was so happy seeing Sawell Tarley get round to being a wizard.
Note to self: wasn't absolutely terrible the first time solely because of the graphics but don't watch again
One of the best science fiction films I've seen in a long while
What could've been a great movie just totally sucked. The concept was there, and the actors were pretty good. But ugh. The script just sucked almost like they found the worst writers with no desire to write a sci-fi movie make up the most hokey scenarios from start to finish. The CGI was okay, but in the beginning even it was ridiculous.
I wanted to turn it off, but found myself wanting to see the punchline, like one of the Marx Brothers was going to jump up. "I'm Curly and I'm here to save the day."
watch it if you have nothing better to do. like I said, terrific concept for a script. horrible execution.
2 out of 10 only because it had so much potential or it would be a solid zero.
it's not a masterpiece but it's fun and tbh that's a major motivator for me when watching movies
You know from the story that it's going to be a lame movie. I expected more from Rolan Emmerich to be honest. The CGI at the start, with the water, it's horrendous. The rest of the movie is ok, but actually seeing how bad it is totally ruins the entire movie. The rest is just funny, nothing special.
Had my doubts first but about halfway it all changed, loved it!
What a wild ride! You'll never guess the end from the beginning, but you might not want to.
it has a few Stella actors and yet remains jarringly shyte.
There are so many things wrong with this movie I kept rolling my eyes and the corny hack dialogue, John Bradley might be a great actor anywhere else but is plain awful in this, even the actors in the storyline look at each other with incredulity at some of the effluence and delivery from this UK actor.
There are a few massive product placements that kept costs lower but just seem wrong.
It's completely full of really lazy idiotic logic and continuity errors that are borderline insulting, if you are going to portray a story stick to it, just stop making stuff up as you go along with a "that'll do, no-one will notice, as long as we make bank" attitude.
It's frustrating as this movie could have been so much better, up there with Independence Day and the like but as it is it's the most expensive and longest B movie you are going to waste part of your life on.
For the life of me I can't understand why this movie has received such negative comments/reviews. Every person I've actually talked with loved it. Good actors, good plot, good visuals, non-stop action, etc. Only thing I can think of is people take this movie too seriously. It's science FICTION. Stop with the "It's not accurate or what could really happen". There are movies way further off the reality path than this one that no one seems to mind. I feel like a bunch of people that aren't really into sci-fi voted it down and then a bunch of saps with no minds of their own jumped on the wagon.
I'm halfway through Moonfall, and I can't believe how utterly stupid this is. Why in blue hell does everyone think that they will be safe if they travel to Colorado? Why is anyone talking about getting to safety in the first place; the fucking moon is about to crash to earth. At least Patrick Wilson's character had the good sense to scream at Halle Berry: "To safety?!? These people won't have a planet unless we figure something out!"
The film features nearly every tired disaster/action movie trope and archetype in the book. The white knight protagonist. The tough and tenacious female. The geek/conspiracy theorist. The old, creepy guy in the basement who knows where all the bodies are buried. The clueless head of a major government organization. The inspirational-you-did-great-thanks-for-trying-to-save-humanity-and-all-now-go-home-and-be-with-your-families-before-we-all-die speech. Wilson and Sam Tarly, from Game of Thrones, have decent performances, although I find it hard to believe he would be part of such a monstrosity of a movie, but you know, money, and lots of it. We all know Donald Sutherland is good, but he's tucked away in a basement somewhere and doesn't seem terribly concerned about the earth's plight. And finally, Berry's acting is about as compelling as wet cabbage. So, that about covers it for now. I'll report back if I have the inner fortitude to watch the remaining hour.
... Needless to say, I did not.
Is this a good movie? Well, if you expect some reasonable scientific accuracy or a story that is logical then hell no! If however you only seek two hours of entertaining action-adventure and a shitload of special effects, then it is a pretty good movie.
The story behind this movie is ludicrous to say the least. There are so many holes in it, so much scientific bullshit and so much illogical behaviour by everyone involved that this would be a very, very long post should I list them all.
By the way, the rest of this review might contain a spoiler or two if you have not yet seen the movie.
Even if we ignore the absolutely nonsensical notion that you could actually cram a white dwarf star into the moon without it affecting Earth, like tearing it apart, the story is ludicrous to say the least.
I would say that the notion that NASA, after the space shuttle clearly being hit by a foreign object would not only decide to hide behind some bullshit human error excuse but also get away with it is rubbish. But then, after two years with a senile sock puppet claiming to be the president of the United States and seeing how one lie after another, each one more obvious and ludicrous than the next, have been spewed out as well as bolstered by a completely biased, borderline criminal, mainstream media and tech industry, maybe it is not that far fetched.
Then we of course have the usual Hollywood “features” like a main character that starts off by being a reckless and utterly stupid moron, people just standing there and staring, and doing nothing, at bad things approaching and so on and so forth.
However, if you put your brain in idle, something that you have to do more often than not when it comes to Hollywood movies today, this is actually a quite entertaining movie. At least as far as I am concerned.
Yes, it is predictable as hell but it is still a good action-adventure and the nonsensical story behind it allows for some unusual and spectacular special effects. The special effects are of course making up for most of the stars I was willing to give this movie. It is more or less the reason to watch it.
One good thing about the movie though, is that it is refreshingly void of woke and political bullshit preaching. No green propaganda or gender or race crap. Well unless you count the US military being portrayed as the usual morons that they are in Hollywood movies of course. Seriously? Even if you managed to fire Earth’s entire nuclear arsenal into the moon it would have zero effect. But then again, with woke asshats like General Milley you never know.
Bottom line, despite the absence of science a ludicrous story, to me, this was a quite entertaining (science) fiction movie with plenty of special effects and action.
Ridiculously poorly done. What a waste of really good actors.
Roland Emmerich, the director behind films such as Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow, is back with a new disaster film, Moonfall. The plot revolves around the moon falling out of orbit, leading to a conspiracy theory being uncovered. Emmerich does not attempt to make Moonfall anything other than a big disaster film and delivers on that promise. The film has a lot of visually impressive set pieces, however, the story and script are muddy, and some of the acting performances are lacking, particularly from Patrick Wilson. The attempt to add scientific justification for the disaster comes across as jargon at times. While the film has some enjoyable moments, it ultimately falls short, with a weak story, lackluster subplots, and underdeveloped side characters. It's not a great film and had some worse aspects than expected.
Good visual effects. Bad story. Everything just on the surface and adjective.
I don't get all the hate with this movie. It's a disaster movie. Yes it is bad, but it was also fun. You don't watch it for the oscar worthy plot or performances, you watch it to enjoy stuff exploding and getting destroyed. Loved the scenes inside the moon and the quick hint of the previous civilization that built it. The subplots were as ridiculous as every other disaster movie.
John Bradley did a very good job of being a comic relief while not being too over the top.
Donald Sutherland though got done dirty with a weak scene just to justify putting his name on the credits.
The science made no sense and that chinook that flew straight toward the water was asking for it. But I was really entertained by it. Sad we won't get the trilogy.
I had a few hours to kill when I came across this movie and figured, “how bad could it be?” Dear sweet baby Jesus…. Never again. Terrible, terrible writing. The dialogue was just truly horrendous. Berry tried WAY too hard to the point I spent and inordinate amount of time wondering if it was deliberate, and the acting overall was just simply subpar at its best.
Good and funny movie, I really like it…
Probably Roland watched History Channel tv series "Ancient Aliens" too often.
Yes, it's silly and ridiculous, with some huge plot holes.
Yet, I found it entertaining.
7 out of 10.
Roland needs to attend high school again. He might have missed something.
This movie gets stupider by the minute
The moon is a megastructure of ours.
Roland Emmerich must be recognized for his firmness in directing films that are consistent in a filmography full of disasters and threats of destruction of our planet. That is his brand, the mark he leaves in a story that again uses all the possible clichés to make a predictable story. But surprisingly, it works well enough not to be thrown away as an entertainment product. Even if it's a disastrous disaster movie.
if the bad ai was going to war with the ancestor humans and they made a good ai to be in the moon to search for another planet… why not mass produce the good ai to fight the bad ai
The moon is going to crash into the Earth in 3 weeks, but everyone has so many personal problems that it's competing for their time to care about the destruction of the planet.
I didn't finish the movie. There is no way to excape the planet. Going to Colorado won't help. Colorado is a place on Earth!
It was an enjoyable disaster movie ...i didn't have to find solid logic behind everything..and every movie don't have to be scientifically accurate.....overall a fun watch..enjoyed my time..
It had so much potential but the acting and even character writing was just awful ; some of the special effects belong to a cheaper film....
A movie with a very high budget, involving lots of producers, it seems. Sometimes this is bad, because they tend to do too much, like in this case. This movie starts like a disaster flick, then turns completely sci-fi with 40 minutes left, and at that point science and physics are all over the place. The characters were laughable, just figurines.
It does entertain despite its lenght, I'll give it that.
I xan deal with a dumb movie as long as it's not boring. This was both.
It's a movie.
Jokes aside, I got here with zero to no expectation and this is how you should watch an Emmerich movie.
The dialogue was bad, most of the acting too, the plot has craters, but damn that was a fun late night watch.
The visuals were mostly good, with some inspiration from Halo or Mass Effect series for sure.
Just put the seventh art critique persona to rest a little while you laugh as you watch this super expensive game movie.
I can live with a silly scenario, but not with the aweful acting, poor dialogues, and ugly CGI. The movie just doesn't work.
Overall, the summary of the movie is 6/10 which is a pity. The empty moon concept has great potential. The first part of the movie is very poor on all levels. Then it is slightly better, but there is a great exaggeration in reference to other films of this type (Armageddon). Sometimes it's better not to show something than to show too much.
Just two words: product placement.
One more emmeryc's failed attempt to indepence the shit out of earth. Literally...
Though it was somewhat intertaining, its premise is completely ridiculous. A random conspiracy guy find out something everyone should already know, and actually, at the time where he finds out in the movie nasa(the ones who didn't know) was already start to discussing the issue, specially the way we keep track of moons trajectory and distance today. So he wasn't anything special, like they tell on their lines. He just found out before general public.
And I'm not even gonna mention the rest of the dumb stuff they call plot in this trash.
It's not a 1 like many people might have you thinking, but it's also not even a mediocre movie.
It has some, SOME, nice visual effects though.
I'm full of these shity movies about bad ai, and dumb ideas about how humans came to be.
Edit:
And what was all that Elon musk's c**k sucking about? Was he an investor on this shit? Did they want to send him a message? Was this movie written by some tedtalk guy? Idiot movie. "Oh, I love Elon", I swear I almost threw up. So much second hand embarrassment. I'm changing my rating to 2 after remembering that.
I don’t even have the words….
The plot is shit. The science is shit. The acting is shit. But it’s just so f’ing fun. If you like watching train wrecks, strap in ‘cause you’re gonna love this shit. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Surprisingly enough, I did enjoy the movie. Sure, it is not something deeply anchored on actual science. But, c'mon it's science fiction. Emphasis on the FICTION part. I think it's a good way of passing time...
The moment they entered and saw the whole moon inside it was like “what a joint they have smoked” but then when it tells the story I was like WHAAAAAT.
Premise - 11/20 - A conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Time to suspend disbelief.
Cast/characters - 13/20 - Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson did OK, but others were not very layered. John Bradley as KC made you cheer for the nerds.
Story - 15/20 - Much better than I expected, with a satisfying ending.
Dialogue - 12/20 - Interesting rhetoric, even if it's crazy.
World-building - 17/20 - They went all out on this idea. Building a moon structure and destroying most of the world takes good visuals.
Nice special effects, good crew but that’s it.
I actually enjoyed this movie. Good pace, interesting theory on Mega Structures. Good CGI especially inside the moon. Well worth a watch :thumbsup_tone1: :thumbsup_tone1:
Very boring story, lacking of science knowledge and imagination. The megastructure idea sucks
Nothing much more to be said than has already been written below. It's certainly not terrible. I actually rather enjoyed it, despite how stupid it can be. Well worth a watch just for the fun factor.
"This planet has suffered five extinctions. This is going to be the sixth."
So, 'Moonfall' is a movie.
I watched this back in February in 4DX (more of that in a bit), and the reason for the long delay was due to a busy schedule with personal stuff, but better late than never.
Anyhow,
'Moonfall' is yet another one of Roland Emmerich's "end of the world" movies, and it follows the same familiar as the rest.
Alright, I will get straight to it, the movie is stupid, like really stupid, and I expected that going in and enjoyed it for what it was. Some of the performances range from decent to horrendous, there is a father and son subplot that I did not care for, and at times it was so transparent that some scenes were on a sound stage. The ending is so terrible and ridiculous that I had to keep telling myself to go along with it. John Bradley was the only good part of this. Donald Sutherland was only in one scene, and he never appears again in the movie. Charlie Plummer is in this movie, I have seen great things from him, such as the 2017 film ‘Lean on Pete’, but here he was shockingly terrible.
But as I mentioned from the very start, this was not just any other movie experience as I saw this in 4DX for the first time, and let me say that Martin Scorsese was right about modern movies becoming theme park rides because THIS IS IT! You know those 4D rides where the seat moves and environmental effects such as water, wind, etc. Well, imagine that just stretch out for two hours, and those two hours I was hanging on to dear life. Even then, not all the visuals were synchronized or consistent with the movement of the seats. For example, there is a scene where John Bradley's character is late for work, so he drives in a hurry and gets out of his vehicle to run into the building, but for some reason, the seating is moving like crazy, but there are other scenes where characters are in a hurry and yet no movement.
So yeah, an "interesting" experience for sure, but not for me.
Overall rating: "Fuck the moon."
Not to bad, felt like another Armageddon remake.
i can't even finish this movie.
whoever wrote the dialogues and interactions in this movie has never seen a another human being.
This could have been a pretty decent film. Unfortunately it lost its way somewhere around the hour mark and then it was downhill all the way from there. Some laughable scenes, as in laughing AT it, not with it. Plenty of holes in the plot, some as big as the one on the moon! Just about passable if you want a no-brainer of a film to help pass the time.
i was kinda surprised. just heard really bad stuff about this movie, but somehow i just wanted to see for myself and its not that bad. i mean people are going crazy over ryan reynolds movies, and there sure are not all good.
it looks amazing and the effects should be appreciated, story is 0815 with fast pacing but a kind of interesting twist/perspective. its not a realistic movie, but an entertaining one. if you liked stuff like greenland, deep impact, the core, etc just watch it and have a nice time.
This movie had potential. It's a simple disaster movie premise with some surprises up its sleeves and some solid actors to boot. Unfortunately the writing just wasn't there. Once the "moonfall" begins, almost every major plot point feels forced and nonsensical. There's a timing disconnect, with the escalation in disaster level happening in a way that feels like things are on fast forward (i.e. Patrick Wilson shows up at a hotel for a meeting with the conspiracy theorist, and suddenly the hotel is being flooded). The movie also tries to get a lot of mileage out of the lower gravity caused by the moon getting closer, but it's a trick that gets old after the second or third time it's used. Perhaps the most egregious contrivance in the writing was in the moments leading up to the shuttle takeoff. In a matter of minutes, (1) the mission is cancelled due to an engine failure; (2) everyone is sent home; (3) the aforementioned lower gravity saves the day and the mission is back on; and (4) all of the main characters get to go on the trip because the qualified folks were conveniently sent home. It's almost laughable. On top of all of this, the conclusion rests on a clunky exposition dump to introduce an even clunkier deus ex machina. Also... there's a lot of questionable CGI.
Kind of disappointed by this movie. The Alien storyline was just really dumb and some of the CGI on Earth made the film look like a B-movie at times.
Wow! It started ok'ish, but keept going down from there. Absolutely horrific silly and terrible all at once. Save your time for something better. Wish I had.
So, looks like a big reveal as to the moon's true form, like we figured.
i regret watched this movie bro
It’s passable. Script is okay. Some light sci-fi fun, don’t expect too much and it can be enjoyable.
Only real problem for me was the CGI that was of too low quality and pulled me out of the experience.
People give this a bad rap but it's actually an entertaining piece of science fiction. As long as the acting is OK and the story is fresh, it's worth a watch - and this is worth a watch.
I don't think I'll watch it again for five or more years, it's not that good, but it's good enough that I can see myself watching it again sometime. Berry really does show that her capacity for acting is, well, not that much. When you wonder "what ever happened to her", it's this mostly, just a string of mediocre to downright bad acting in obscure movies.
I'm probably going to catch some flak for this, but Moonfall is not a particularly bad film. Sure, it's stupid, but come on...it's a Roland Emmerich film for crying out loud. If it's not stupid, he's not keeping to what has made him millions of dollars up through the years.
Anyway, Moonfall is visually impressive, and the sound is not far behind, but the story is...well...it's there, but come on... Is the story really why you sat down to see this film?!?
My advice?!? Leave your film club snobbery behind, and just enjoy the visually spectacular nonsense. It might even alleviate some of your blood pressure problems...
Emmerich swam, definitely closer to the sci-fi fairy tale. If we evaluate it that way it can defend itself because the realism of this fairy tale is negligible. ;)
What waste of good actors. Should have just watched my fridge defrost
It's not as silly as you expect...it's sillier!! Emmerich has done this kind of thing before but better and with more realistic special effects. Risible dialogue and no semblance of plot logic adds to the movie's problems. Some people clearly like it (judging by comments on here) but even by this genre's low standards, we really did deserve something of better quality than this.
The hotel scene is hands down my favorite scene:
"Hey man, the world is crashing down and everything is flooded, so let's put on our Pajamas and get a relaxing, good night's sleep! Don't worry, if some choppers will urgently and surprisingly need us, they'll know where to get us from as I updated our current living address on Facebook"
XD :joy::joy::joy:
2nd best part:
"Yes of course we can launch this 40 year old space shuttle in 28 minutes. After all, we're 3 people and I only need to call my parents until the launch!"
It feels like it should be a spoof but then is not actually a spoof.
This could not be worse if it was written by an AI trying to reuse tropes from better movies.
Did Elon Musk part fund this? He is name checked more often than some of the main characters.
The only funny thing in the movie was the name of the cat.
Ohh such an expensive piece of crap this is
(Obviously financed by that shit Chinese company) masterfully created by Emmerich, king of flops.
If plot holes disturb you, be aware! Your OCD will scream while watching this.
I guess also Oscar winners such Hally Barry have to pay the bills..
Easily one of the stupidest movies you'll ever watch.
excellent has very good effect ...:thumbsup_tone2:
I enjoyed the movie! It's fascinating to imagine what it would be like if the moon was really hollow lol
Waiting for a sequel :)
Embarrassingly terrible writing and story line with pretty reasonable special effects. It felt like the script was 5 hours long so they kept only the most basic dialogue to ensure the audience knew what was happening. Even the most dedicated sci-fi fans will struggle with an all power AI being thwarted by the most simplistic of solutions.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously though I'm sure you can go off and watch something much much better than this rubbish.
It tricked me with a somewhat interesting start, which got my attention, a middle where I began to lose interest because of it's ridiculousness.
Then I saw it through until it was finally over because well, Halle Berry was in it
Hmmm best way to describe it is an amalgamation of every sci-fi movie where the earth is in imminent danger and our heroes bravely attempt to save everyone so......just like
Armageddon
Independence Day
The Core
Hmmm....maybe Deep Impact too
Hope you enjoy it....it made me chuckle
Cheers
There is actually a pretty good Science Fiction idea in here that would've made for a good movie.
But no, not with Emmerich. He turns all of that into a mediocre desaster movie with weak characters, stupid and unessessary sideplots, and CGI that ranges from really good to downright laughable.
It's his thing, it's what he does. He makes the same movie again and again.
This movie took me back to the late 90s and early 2000s of sci-fi action films. Simple plot, stereotypical, selfless heroes, 'family' drama, and big apocalyptic disasters. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the next 90 minutes.
This movie have a lot of potencial in fact if you ditch everything that happened to the idiot teenagers and their beyond and stupid car chase, would have been a sci fi classic the story about the moon and origin of the planet is the kind of thing that we love in sci fi very interesting premise that could have spawned a lot of other histories but we get a weak popcorn film.
The cast is good except the Asian chick that look forced into the script just to attract Asian's markets, hope Hollywood would stop doing that!
If it wasn't for the CGI and its effects, this would simply a GARBAGE of a movie. Lame plot, repetitive, dialog left to be desired and wth happened to Halle Berry?! I don't remember her THIS bad.
and last but not least, Americans again saving the world while putting none other but themselves first, showing the true colours
Really lame disaster movie with very bad dialogue. Thank god we've got the Americans to save the planet.
Typical story that has been done multiple times before... hero gets blamed for something and kicked off the force, disaster strikes and only the hero can save the planet after being reinstated.
Don't waste your time on this crap.
0/10
it was so boring! l was glad l didn't pay for it!
Seems these days people just want to jump onboard when it comes to hating something that doesn’t live up to the greatest of all time.
Sure it’s not the most amazing, ground breaking sci-fi film but it was entertaining enough. Good popcorn flick and shame I missed this at the cinema. I am sure the visuals would have looked amazing.
i liked it :) silly little movie about the moon but was a good silly little movie about the moon
Dear oh dear, nothing more to add
I swear… I had no idea it was written and directed by Roland Emmerich… halfway through the film, I tell me husband: “don’t you think this movie is like a hodgepodge of Emmerich’s apocalyptic films?”… the same shitty formula, lame pep talks and trashy plot line.
I promise I didn’t know it was by him, otherwise I wouldn’t even have entertained the idea of watching it. What a waste of money…
Epically ridiculous heroic humanity rescue sci-fi movie. A lot of product placement, a lot of cliches, sometimes pretty decent CGI, and the rest is so ridiculous that I had to LMAO all the time. Overall, If you are a sci-fi addict and don't mind a ton of nonsense, this can entertain you but it's not a movie you'll ever watch again. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
Just one more “end of the world “ movie with a hero saving everyone and a bad actress, Halley Berry.
Nothing to see here….
So bad. Complete nonsense. This film made Armageddon looks like a masterpiece.
I love big, dumb epic disaster movies. Couldn't get into this one, and I blame he of the small face: John Bradley. This is second movie this year (Marry Me is the other) where he had a role that was designed to be comedy relief and it felt more like tortured comedy. Just didn't like it.
I promise you this.
From the start to the end you will understand nothing, only our ancestors used AI
Its fun, and that is i like my movies.
70 | Moonfall has a very ridiculous premise, but the way they handle that premise saved the quality. The science of this film was silly but because of how people in this film react to it made it believable. They just disbelieve like us, the audiences. Moonfall is Don't Look Up 2.0, but better. But it did not mean had no flaws. The visual of this film was painful to watch. Also, A film with stakes this big is not completely successful to captured human emotion to it. We did not see enough desperation, hopelessness, and deep conversation between the characters, even though the world is about to end. With all of that points, Moonfall is not as bad as people said but still could be better than what it was.

I can’t begin with to tell you how dumb this movie is. About half way through i decided I had been subjected to enough of the terrible story and turned it off. Don’t waste your time on this.
Enjoyable movie and decent plot.
Strange pacing. It feels like a disjointed series of scenes with very little rhyme or reason. One second you're in the control booth, the next a huge wave is sweeping over everybody. Literally in 9 seconds the scene changes entirely. This occurs throughout the entire film. It feels poorly edited.
Four words: Lame story. Awesome Vfx.
2012 meets Mission to Mars. Fun bit of nonsense.

Ever since the mid 90s, Roland Emmerich has attempted time and time again to repackage and recapture the ideas from Independence Day. After many failed attempts, I wonder why there’s still a theatrical market for films like this. Or rather, it’s odd that Hollywood thinks there’s still a market for it, given that all of Emmerich’s films since 2012 have flopped at the box office. And, he’s about to add another one to his resume. This should’ve gotten a streaming release at best, as it belongs in the same category as a film like The Tomorrow War. It’s background noise you throw on while you’re doing the dishes or folding the laundry. It's too disposable, phony, poorly acted and boring to pay any serious attention to, let alone pay money for. There's a sense of authenticity and fun to dumb action movies like Independence Day that you're never going to capture with the way these kind of films are made now. You have to applaud Emmerich for making a big, original studio film, but it’s still generic schlock that doesn’t have a single ounce of personality. Fuck whoever financed this.
Edit: after a little bit of digging I found out that the primary investor of this thing is a Chinese company called Tencent Pictures. They’re also responsible for financing other great films such as Terminator: Dark Fate, Warcraft, Kong: Skull Island, Men in Black: International, Monster Hunter and the 2 Venom movies. To put it mildly, it appears that it’s this company’s sole purpose to flood the market with trash, and not exactly the fun kind. Now I know what you’re thinking: maybe their involvement helps with receiving a Chinese release from the CCP? But here’s the problem: Venom 2 was banned in China. So, they’re clearly just a bunch of incompetent investors, given that all of their films (the Venom films excluded) have been massive financial and critical flops. The takeaway for Hollywood should be pretty simple: if Tencent wants to invest in your production, cancel all plans before you have another Moonfall on your hands.
2.5/10
Watch it if you’re a fan of Toto, or genuinly laugh at any point during the first scene.
