[7.0/10] I appreciate the intention here. Leaning into the ways that Sprig and Polly might have a certain sibling rivalry, or at least a natural brother-sister propensity to annoy one another, could bear fruit. Forcing the two of them to go down a challenging path together to bring them closer together could also be a worthwhile story. But in practice, there’s not a lot of laughs or genuine drama to be had from it.
I do like that the worm creature who lured them into its sights is also a brother/sister pair who are literally attached. They help Polly and Sprig realize what their bickering sounds like to others, and working together to defeat them is a nice beat especially when it means taking advantage of this other siblings’ similar propensity to snipe at one another (And I appreciate the setup with Sprig/Polly’s ability to do impersonations coming back in a clever way with the worm monsters.) It’s all not bad, but just doesn’t meat Amphibia’s usual standards.
I did get a laugh out of the slight B-story involving Hop Pop needing to fill the silence when his grandkids aren’t around. Anne being beside herself while listening to his life advice got a laugh out of me, and both parties’ desperation to have Sprig and Polly back, if only to fill the space, is amusing.
Overall, this is a respectable, replacement-level episode that does well to strengthen the relationship between Sprig and Polly, but doesn’t quite rise above “solid”.
