So, the show's animation and general art polish got a considerable glow-up between seasons, which is undeniably exciting, given how threadbare it looked at times in its inaugural run. Sadly, though, it also got about 30% more uncomfortably leering in the portrayal of its female characters, which makes for a bit of an uneasy tradeoff. Though this was always a trashy show, with intermittent bits of startlingly blinding treasure mixed in, so nothing has changed there. After the disappointing final episode of the previous season (I don't think I've ever been as bored by the aftermath of a fantasy story's climax, and I'm usually such a mark for those), it's heartening to see this return premiere heavily leaning into the worldbuilding that surprisingly turned out to be the show's USP. The glimpses of what seems to be this season's antagonist(s) just builds on what made the previous one's arc so devastating, and I can't wait to see it unfold. Though I guess the baffling horniness upgrade is a useful reminder never to expect too much from this show, it's great to see that it's still going to have enough going for it to be a worthwhile (if weird) watch.
