Hulk

The movie is boring, but hilarious if watched with friends. 5/10 for bare Hulk butt. This movie is a crime against editing, my eyes were bleeding by the end of it. Almost made me as nauseous as Battlefield Earth did.

Outbreak

Dustin Hoffman is hilariously annoying.

White Boy Rick

For some reason, whenever Ricky speaks, he reminds me of Travolta in The Fanatic, he literally sounds brain damaged.

Wine Country

Female version of a Happy Madison film, aka defrauding a studio of millions of dollars for an all expense paid vacation for the producers' friends under the guise of filming a movie.

Death Wish 3

Easily the best Death Wish. With a body count of 86 it has 75% of all kills in the franchise. If you have to watch one of the five, this is the one.

Total Recall

This movie is so much fun and never gets old. The right amount of action, laughs, cheese, and Arnie grunts. The best blockbusters are ones that don't take themselves seriously.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

This is the hardest film to rate objectively as I absolutely loved MY version of the film. I explored most of the dead ends and had a gratifying end since I experienced so many of the false endings. Gimmicky, but I absolutely loved my experience.

Not a bad documentary, but seemed rushed out the door. I fell like the annoying text-to-speech was more out of necessity than a creative decision.

World Premiere Review:

It's a decent feel good movie, but has some rough edges. Casting Emily Blunt was spot on and Lin-Manuel is wonderful and some of the musical numbers are fantastic. Unfortunately the beginning and middle drag, with Meryl Streep's bit being not great and completely unnecessary. It was also disappointing that none of the original songs made it into this sequel. Dick Van Dyke steals the show at the end, and yes, he does all his own dance moves at 92 years old. Also seeing Angela Lansbury still with it at 93 put a smile on my face. Mary Poppin's exit is surprisingly cold and seems like a missed opportunity to tug at some heart strings. They should have cut the chase scene in the middle (that also felt completely shoehorned in) to make room for it.

This movie is so much fun, almost from start to finish.

Christopher Robin

World Premiere Review:

Surprisingly good. I had a smile on my face throughout most of the movie and it's genuinely funny. The whole cast is spot on with Ewan hitting it out of the park. Having grown up with Winnie the Pooh, I definitely had an enhanced experience. Discounting for nostalgia, it goes from a 9 to an 8, only because the opening third is quite slow, but it's a very well made film. You believe the stuffed animals are living, breathing things...and you want to believe!

Visually beautiful film and the performances are great, especially from Bale. However, the pace is slow as molasses in the first 3/4s of the movie.

Thor: Ragnarok

Very well paced, doesn't take itself too serious. Just an extremely accessible and fun film. The mashup of themes and the cinematography were spot on. I can't really put the film into words, it just gives you a feeling. As cheesy as that may sound.

Blade Runner

This felt like the Avatar of its time. Impressive visuals, but just painfully boring and slow to watch. Pretty overrated, but I think most of its legacy is its influence on better 80s movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

World Premiere Review - 4/19/17

Still a lot of fun, but suffers from sequelitis. Bottom line, you'll have a ton of fun with this, especially if you're familiar with the backstory and characters. The most common problem is slow pace. Scenes go on for too long. Second, the tone is all over the place to where its slightly confusing. I can't imagine what it must feel like watching this if you're not familiar with the material. Music is used perfectly as the first one did. It's enjoyable and fun and that's all I expect from movies like this.

Stray observation: Stallone can barely get his lines off without having a stroke...he can't possibly keep getting casted because he's the best person available...

World Premiere Review: 12/10/16

I think this was only second to Empire Strikes Back. It was that good. This wasn't your Pa's Star Wars, this was Star Wars with grit, intense action, interesting and investing characters and a true sense that at any point in time, your favorite character might die. Almost Game of Thrones meets Star Wars and (talking with Bob Iger) was a goal for this film and it PAYS OFF. Battles are a major part of this film; white knuckled, adrenaline fueled action. You'll be wired hours after viewing. Imagine the opening to Episode 3, but well done and what you wished Episode 3 was following the opening space battle. I'm at a loss for word without spoiling it. GO SEE IT.

You Only Live Twice

These old Bond films just do not hold up well. Sean Connery's one-liners never get old, but good god the pacing is horrendously slow and action is repetitive. The Connery Bond films are just, SET PIECES: THE MOVIE. If have to watch one more blast door or rocket silo open, I'm gonna Xenia an Onatopp.

Doctor Strange

Just got back from the world premiere. It's a lot of fun and thoroughly entertaining. Classic Marvel humor and tone, amazing visuals, Benedict Cucumber is stellar, but there are a few story flaws and the MCU is really starting to feel formulaic (I'm probably just suffering from franchise burnout).
