The Wild Robot

When dreamworks does it right they really do it right.

Song of the South

If you watched this movie and don’t think it’s racist, please watch “You Must Remember This” podcast talk about the history and context of this film. It’s eye opening as a white person.

While I enjoyed this movie, I can acknowledge that it is indeed racist after doing my research about the film. The film appears to be lighthearted and fun, but there are a lot of racist undertones that white people need to educate themselves on.

The lynching scene and the usage of the term “tar baby” is particularly horrifying once you learn about it. White people need to stay out of this conversation because it’s not our place to say what’s not racist when you have warning signs saying how racist this film indeed is.

From my white privileged perspective: 8/10 but once you learn about this film, it’s hard to give it more than a 1

Make Mine Music

This is my favorite so far of the “Just throw a bunch of shorts together with music”. I was invested in a lot of the shorts, including the baseball one, Pete Vs The Wolf and the Whale. I would say half of the shorts were misses and the other half intrigued me.

Still not my cup of tea, but overall enjoyed it more than the ones that came before it. Wouldn’t watch it again though

Dumbo

Was surprised how much I enjoyed this film. An hour was the perfect runtime for the story they want to tell. Was not expecting a whole sequence of dumbo and the mouse getting drunk.

The crows are seriously outdated but that’s been talked about enough.

The Three Caballeros

Half of this movie is just Donald being a horny pervert. It really weirded me out how much focus they put on this storyline.

This is a step up from Saludos Amigos. I was invested in the first couple cartoons but they really lost me in the back half. Some of the musical sequences go on for soooooo long. By the end I was just waiting for it to end because of how long the ending sequence was.

Bambi

This movie is beautiful but boring. There’s a whole lot of scenes of nothing happening. The songs aren’t good and they move on from Bambi’s mom dying way too fast. It’s a big event and it’s never acknowledged again after it happens. That event is what this film is famous for and you’d think it’s a big part of the movie, it’s not.

You’d think this movie came after lion king to capitalize off of that movie, because the story has similarities. What this movie does, Lion King does better. In every way.

The Reluctant Dragon

Honestly a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Had never heard of this before watching it but loved seeing the behind the scenes of animation in the 1940s.

The animations themselves were pretty weak tbh, I enjoyed the live action portions more

The Edge of Sleep

Love Markiplier but he still has a long ways to go in the acting department. I felt like he was the weakest here, but he did shine in some aspects.

The plot was intriguing enough that I finished it in 1 day, but the ending was pretty meh.

Fantasia

Listen I’m sure this was revolutionary at the time, and the music/animation is beautiful but damn is it slowwwwwww.

KAOS

Love the LGBTQ+ representation in the show. Feels genuine and works with the story/characters.

It’s a shame it got cancelled because Netflix may take away the wrong lesson with LGBTQ representation ≠ Low viewership.
