Bambi 1942

It's fine. The animation is good. For some reason I thought the mom died like 10 minutes into the movie but it's even sadder after seeing her for a longer time. People suck.

I thought 'Flower' was a female :skull:

I find it kind of boring; maybe those aren't my kind of movies, but I only find them worth watching once in a lifetime.

It has it's cute moments, but I don't really need to see it again and again.

This is such a beautiful movie. Is awesome to see how Disney managed to animate cartoon animals using those incredible backgrounds.

This movie is beautiful but boring. There’s a whole lot of scenes of nothing happening. The songs aren’t good and they move on from Bambi’s mom dying way too fast. It’s a big event and it’s never acknowledged again after it happens. That event is what this film is famous for and you’d think it’s a big part of the movie, it’s not.

You’d think this movie came after lion king to capitalize off of that movie, because the story has similarities. What this movie does, Lion King does better. In every way.

Very charming movie with a few sad moments. I can understand why many people like this film.

One of Walt Disney’s most celebrated and daring films, Bambi is the story of a young fawn born a prince and his adventures growing up and making friends with the creatures of the woods. The animation is quite vivid for the time and does a great job at capturing the movements of animals realistically. And, the characters are incredibly fun and inject a lot humor into the film. However, the storytelling is rather poor; as the transitions between seasons are jarring and the story feels incomplete. Still, there’s a lot to like in Bambi and it’s an entertaining family film.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Bambi’:

  1. The OG “Circle of Life” story.

  2. Most of the film was basically a Fantasia montage. An exercise in animation and music.

  3. This was an animated lesson on the intrusion of man and his damaging effect on nature. Disney didn’t seem to hold back here.

Level "Excellent" • 8  • Recommended.

This has long been on my list of shame and I finally got to see it. I suspect through osmosis and watching Disney specials over the years I've seen 90% of the first 45 minutes of the movie. Which is the good part. It really drops off interest quickly after a certain moment I won't spoil for the one person in a world that doesn't know. The animation is beautiful, but it gets awful dull by the end.

Like 'Dumbo', which was released a year prior, I'm not a huge fan of 'Bambi'. This is certainly the better of the two, though it still isn't an astonishing film to me.

The animation here is back to the level you'd expect, it largely still holds up even today. The voices behind the screen aren't massively improved, though Peter Behn is superb as Young Thumper; he has one great quote.

Plot-wise is where my gripes are. Take out the infamous event that everyone knows about and you're left with a fairly plain premise. With that said, I will note that on this rewatch I do recognise it's more of a coming-of-age story rather than anything else.

I'd prefer a more substantial storyline, as opposed to something that only tugs on the heartstrings; which isn't incredibly hard to do, especially with animals.

I previously rated this 2*, which was (albeit marginally) too harsh. It's an OK film, one for the family.

6 - Fair

I can see how great a movie this would've been but it definitely shows it's age (not story wise though, but animation wise).

I thought this was a pretty good film. The animation looked amazing. The story was pretty good as well, nothing really special in my opinion, but still enjoyable. There were a lot of great scenes throughout the entire film. The scene in which Bambi's mother was shot was made very well and I thought the burning forrest scene at the end was very good as well. The music in the film really fits in with the rest of the film. Overall a pretty good Disney animated classic.
