Not as bad as everyone says it is. People who are saying that this is an unnecessary movie are dumb. Every movie ever made is basically unnecessary. This movie isn’t a 10/10. But i actually enjoyed. And to all you people review bombing this for the LGBTQ+ representation.. screw you, really, go screw yourself in the asshole.
MODERATION EDIT: I've changed a few words because of bad language. Don't use such words here.
Super weird - in a movie theater me and bunch of other adults had super bad allergies - just tears and tears
If you watched this movie and don’t think it’s racist, please watch “You Must Remember This” podcast talk about the history and context of this film. It’s eye opening as a white person.
While I enjoyed this movie, I can acknowledge that it is indeed racist after doing my research about the film. The film appears to be lighthearted and fun, but there are a lot of racist undertones that white people need to educate themselves on.
The lynching scene and the usage of the term “tar baby” is particularly horrifying once you learn about it. White people need to stay out of this conversation because it’s not our place to say what’s not racist when you have warning signs saying how racist this film indeed is.
From my white privileged perspective: 8/10 but once you learn about this film, it’s hard to give it more than a 1
Never saw this since it's out of print and considered too racist. Just watching it on YouTube now to form my own opinion.
Br'er Rabbit who represents a black man is caught by a Fox who represents a white man when Br're is noosed and hanging. Scenes like that is why the film is considered racist.
After seeing Zootopia I was curious in this since Zootopia which is against racism is supposed to be pretty much the opposite of Song of the South.
If you don't spend too much time thinking about what makes it racist; the film is light-hearted and still a classic. The biggest problem with it though is that it makes it appear black people were perfectly happy as slaves.
Another animated Disney film ticked off my list, this one reminds me of Fantasia with little shorts all put into one movie. Worth a watch but not one of the Disney greats I'm afraid.
The world was a little different 80 years ago. But some things don't change, the most important thing is to believe in yourself. :)
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Three Caballeros’:
The story with the penguins was super cute. Quintessential Disney charm. And, in the end, it felt like it came from an entirely different film.
After José was introduced, it became kinda nonsensical. I understand that this was a journey through various cultures, which I can appreciate, but it had a hard time holding my attention. Some segments went on for far too long. It was difficult to enjoy.
This is 20 years before Mary Poppins, so the incorporation of live action with animation, for its time, is certainly impressive. The animation in general is gorgeous. A story would’ve been nice.
Bonus Thought: The constant “goo goo gah gah” towards the women was a bit much.
A little bit dull. Half of it is a few Silly Symphony type cartoons stitched together, while the other half is basically Donald Duck perving over every woman he sees, which comes off as a bit weird.
It was fun to see how they did research back then, but otherwise not that special.
It has it's cute moments, but I don't really need to see it again and again.
It's fine. The animation is good. For some reason I thought the mom died like 10 minutes into the movie but it's even sadder after seeing her for a longer time. People suck.
Not really a movie, more of a documentary. A really playful way of showing what happens in creating an animated movie at that time.
loved the behind the scenes and Disney history aspect
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Reluctant Dragon’:
I was not expecting a live action movie.
The animated stories were cute, but not the highlight. The soul of this film lies in all the magic making. It was a treat to see all that went into creating Disney animated pictures way back when. The behind-the-scenes tour gave the studios a magical theme park feel and you can see how Walt really set the bar for everything.
Appearances by Walt himself and the legendary voice of Donald Duck were also fun highlights. Benchley, on the other hand, was largely unlikable.
More of an experience than a movie. I think some of the later stories are a lot weaker than the first few. It is hard to stay so focused on this when there is no real narrative thread throughout the whole 2 hours. I kinda wish this would of cut the olympus one and made it shorter. Still it is something unique and I'm sure was really cool at the time to see in theaters.
i try to like it.but not enough to enjoy it.
I may not be a smart man..but I know what a good movie iiiiiiiiiiizzzzz
The scariest part of this movie was when that woman said "Everything's better swimming in ketchup."
Hopper: "You let one ant stand up to us, then they all might stand up. And if they ever figure that out, there goes our way of life!" In real life this is sooo true...
