5x01 Doctor Reacts To The Wildest TikToks

Season Premiere

5x01 Doctor Reacts To The Wildest TikToks

  • 2021-01-04T01:00:00Z10m

TikTok has taken over the internet this year and I love seeing what kind of medical stuff there is out there. Today I react to a whole bunch of TikToks that really set me off, from jarring cupping therapy, to using pam as tanning lotion (Don’t!), to using a hydraulic press on COVID-19 and even making babies think they’re falling. Got some medical TikToks you want me to react to? Send them my way and I’ll look at them in my next TikTok review video.

A couple of years ago I played Surgeon Simulator on this channel and had… moderate success (to put it lightly). Bossa Studios went back to the drawing board and created a full blown sequel, Surgeon Simulator 2. This time around I decided I needed a little help, and who better to lend a hand in the OR than traveling ER nurse and professional gamer, Bianca Antisera? Nurse Bianca and I fumbled our way through removing hearts, cracking ribs, replacing limbs, and the most difficult medical procedure of all: replacing every single organ in a patient’s body. Not sure I remember that lesson from med school, but Bianca and I had to figure it out here!

Mr. Bean was one of my favorite shows growing up, and I remember there being some medical moments along the way, so today I dove back into the work of Rowan Atkinson and the BBC to relive those childhood memories and assess just how accurate the medicine in Mr. Bean was. I didn’t just look at this live-action show either, spending the majority of my time watching the 1997 movie “Bean” as well as exploring the animated series for the first time. Surgery, defibrillators, x-rays, sutures, and Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which you can read about here:

At long last, the COVID-19 vaccine is finally here and the long distribution has begun. Today, I sat down with Dr. Seema Yasmin from the Stanford Center for Health Education to demystify any ambiguity about this vaccine, such as how effective it is, the side effects, and which groups are eligible. We also dove into the science of how the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna vaccines actually work, the technicals of mRNA, and whether the vaccine is safe for children. Have any more questions about the vaccine? Drop them below and I’ll try to answer as many as I can.

Dr. Susan Moore contracted COVID-19 late last year and turned to social media to air her grievances regarding her medical care, stating she was the victim of racist medical treatment. To discuss this tragic story and racism in medicine, I’ve invited Dr. Kadijah Ray, a pediatric anesthesiologist and founder of the Facebook group “Physician Woman SOAR”. Dr. Ray and I talked about patient advocacy, the barriers preventing people of color from getting into medicine, the history of racism in medicine, and how we can prevent tragedies like Dr. Moore’s from happening again.

Do you remember growing up when you’d have to watch these really uncomfortable health films in school? Me too. I wanted to take a look back and see just how accurate those films were and whether they were teaching us anything remotely useful. Turns out… sometimes? Today I watch films about the menstrual cycle and puberty, soap and water from the US Military, and an actual introductory film to the life of a DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) which is what I am! Needless to say, the antics of Stubby and Mr. Do Right won’t be soon forgotten.

From Portlandia, Monty Python, Robot Chicken, College Humor to Studio C I am going to react to some viral & hilarious medial sketches! A few months ago I reacted to the funniest medical sketches from Saturday Night Live, and you all asked me to react to some more clips that aren’t from SNL. I scoured YouTube for the most hilarious medical skits I could find and eventually pulled together a really strong group from Portlandia, Monty Python, Robot Chicken, College Humor, and Studio C. Outside of laughing, I managed to find opportunities to discuss appendectomies, separating conjoined twins, depression, Web MD, cancer, and Leroy Jenkins, among other things. Anything else I missed? Let me know in the comments below!

9gag has some of the funniest memes on the internet, so I combed through their IG @9gag to see if the had any medical ones. Low and behold, I found a treasure trove of savage memes about spine curvature, dyslexia, the band Disturbed being “down with the sickness”, Spongebob, prior authorizations, heart health, and so much more. Got some more memes? Send them my way!

Cells At Work: Code Black was an awesome manga, and now they’ve finally made the anime! We talk about the depressing journey of a red blood cell, platelets, an irritable stomach, the dangers of smoking, bacteria, carbon monoxide poisoning, antibiotics, and those savage white blood cells! This was just the first episode of Code Black though, which one should I watch next?

Today I interview Dr. Arghavan Salles, MD, PhD., and board-certified bariatric surgeon about the recently released covers of Cosmopolitan magazine, depicting women of all shapes and sizes and boldly claiming “this is healthy.” Dr. Salles and I dove into the nuances of the Healthy At Every Size (HAES) movement, fatphobia, and reality of obesity. There are some difficult subjects in here, like struggles with insurance and diets/dieting, so please let me know your thoughts down below!

Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows on TV, and over the years I’ve noticed people pitching various medical products. Today I pulled together all the health pitches from Shark Tank US and Australia and decided to play a shark myself. I donned my best suit, got out my check book, and evaluated these pitches on their medical validity. Honestly, there were some solid products! The synthetic bodies from Syndaver Labs piqued my interest, as did the Simple Sugars Exfoliating Scrub and Throat Scope tongue depressor, which I’ve actually used in real life. Other pitches though, like “ion-canceling watches” or miracle cures for the flu AND common cold… nuh uh, Dr. VarSHARKsi is out. Props to my man Mark Cuban for keeping it real and calling out those scams! Any pitches I missed? Let me know in the comments!

Every time I get into a new relationship, my partner winds up asking me the question “what is your love language?” My answers have varied over the years when answering off the top of my head, so for Valentine’s Day I decided to sit down and take the test to find out exactly what my heart is really looking for. Touch, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, quality time? Which one is your love language, and do you think the test got me right?

I’ve watched a countless number of Grey’s Anatomy episodes on this channel, so I thought it was time for me to finally take a quiz and see which character from Grey’s I am! This highly scientific test got down to the core of who being, assessing how I handle tense situations, whether I’d report my coworkers for committing a crime, and even what kind of first date I’d be into. Do you agree with the results? Let me know in the comments if you think this quiz got it right or if there is another character I more closely resemble!

We all get headaches. Often it’s from stress or lack of sleep, but sometimes the cause of our headaches might be coming from sources you didn’t realize. For instance, I love cheese so much, but did you know cheese can actually be the source of your headache? How about wine? Your phone? Even your pillow or hat or caffeine withdrawal from not drinking coffee! Today I discuss 10 surprising causes of headaches you probably didn’t know about. Is there anything you’ve found that gives you a headache that I didn’t put on this list? Let me know down below!

Hospital Playlist (Medical KDrama) debuted in South Korea and on Netflix internationally last year (2020) and garnered a pretty devoted fanbase, so after all your requests I finally sat down and watched it. This show does a lot of things right, from not over-dramatizing intense moments to an accurate portrayal of real chest compressions! That being said, no med drama is perfect, and I found several issues, such as groups treating children, advising patients on cancer biopsies, and the ethics of performing surgery with a Darth Vader helmet on. You know medicine. Which episode should I watch next?

You all have been sending me some FIRE medical TikToks, so it was time for me to clean out my inbox and do a new reaction video. Holy cow, was there a lot of good stuff in here. We talk about the Guinness Book of World Record holder for largest hands/height and popping out eyeballs, hypothermia, cartilage on the belly button, spiders in the car, hardcore braces and orthodontia, veins, and so much more. Got some TikToks you want me to react to? Send them to my producer @SamDonaldBowers and I’ll react to them in my next video!

Last year I reacted to medical scenes from The Simpsons. One of you suggested I should reacted to South Park medical scenes, and I challenged you to get that comment to 10,000 likes. Boy did you deliver! So, to cash that check, I sat down and reacted to medical scenes from Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s Comedy Central sensation, South Park. There was a ton of hilarious stuff in here and plenty of opportunities for me to talk about some medicine! While Cartman’s gingervitis might not be real, gingivitis is and there are tons of myths about red/ginger hair and freckles. I also discussed Kyle’s need for a kidney transplant, Stan confronting “naturopaths” selling miracle supplements, Cartman getting shots for vaccines and vaccinations, and the antics of Dr. Doctor. We’ll save Kenny’s unfortunate endings for another time ;)

Hyram Yarbro is a fellow YouTuber and a skin care specialist… or so he claims. Today I wanted to put him to the test to see just how much of a skin specialist he is by playing my new game show: Name That Skin! I showed Hyram extremely close up images of various skin, ranging from human skin irritated by poison ivy, to the skin of a lady bug, to the skin of a grape, and everything in-between. Hyram crushed it, especially pulling out answers like “Beluga Whale” and “Roof Shingles”, raising $7000 for Direct Relief. Let me know down below how you did playing along and which ones you got correct!

In this twentieth episode of Responding to Comments, I tackle the age old question of “how do I get rid of my double chin?” I also discuss improving your memory, eye twitching, tongue strength, removing warts, cryotherapy, sweat, and whether cranberry juice can actually cure UTIs. Got more questions? Drop them down below and I’ll work them into my next RTC video!

Over the years the team at Buzzfeed has dipped their toes into the world of creating some medical videos. I have actually appeared in some of them, but today I wanted to take a look at what videos they’ve put out and see how accurate they are. A lot of their interviews with med students and nurses yield some very true stories and experiences of what it’s like to study medicine! Some of their other videos, such as how to fight off a cold… not so much. Today we’re debunking miracle cures like Apple Cider Vinegar, the value of a good nasal spray, how much coffee med students drink, and some nightmares that actual nurses have had to endure.

New Amsterdam is a very entertaining medical drama, and their recent season 3 premiere didn’t hold back on the excitement, as we witness a passenger jet make an emergency landing on New York City’s East River, similar to Sully Sullenberger’s miracle on the Hudson. Just because the show is exciting doesn’t mean it’s medically accurate though, so I dove in to assess the reality of what a large-scale trauma emergency would look like. A few moments here left me scratching my head, such as the high improbably case of a plane’s antifreeze preventing a wound from clotting, and why a hospital would ever intentionally hide a patient from law enforcement. If there are any pilots out there, please chime in and let me know how accurate the airplane material was!

Dr. Danielle Belardo is the Director of Cardiology, and Co-Director of Research and Education, at IOPBM in Newport Beach California. She is also a proud vegan, but that alone has not stopped vegan twitter from ridiculing her for various beliefs and practices she holds surrounding plant-based diets. I sat down with Dr. Belardo to discuss why she receives so much hate from vegans online, where she actually stands on being a vegan vs. what she recommends for her patients, and various ways you can improve the health of your heart. There are some really hot takes in here, particularly around being vegan and receiving vaccines that were tested on animals, cholesterol and saturated fats in eggs, and universal benefits of plant-based diets.

The medical memes just keep getting weirder! Today we talk about tonsil stones, Harry Potter, nasal tests, first year med students, gal bladder/gal stones, skeletons, the sun, pizza, cutting carbs, and someone out there made me into a Pokemon card. What a world. Got some medical memes you want me to see? Then them over and I may react to them in my next video!

Michael Reeves is one of my favorite YouTubers. He’s extremely creative with his engineering, building robots that do all sorts of hilarious things. He’s made a roomba that screams when it hits something, a microwave powered by screams, an electric chair that tasers you if you can’t find Waldo fast enough. Come to think of it, most of Michaels inventions are somehow scream-related. Unfortunately, Michael is no stranger to scream-inducing pain himself, as he revealed his scary history with a bladder problem that nearly left him passed out on the floor of a Hawaii shopping mall. I wanted to set the record straight with Michael over the “popping” sound that emerged from inside him, the frequency of his urination, his “p-i-s cup” invention, and the claims people make that his urine “turned black."

Last summer I reacted to some bizarre health posts I’d found on Facebook. I logged back in to see if I could fact-check any more posts that seemed to be spreading like wildfire. Well wouldn’t you know it didn’t take me long to find some dangerously misleading or downright ridiculous health “tips”. I had to fact check things like using onions to cure the cold, baking soda to remove grease from your hair, drinking cow’s urine to fight COVID-19, putting cabbage in your bra to battle mastitis, using toothpaste as a skin cream, and the proper way to hold your phone, drive, and wear your backpack to school.

I’ve reacted to The Simpsons and South Park medical scenes, so next up is Family Guy! Seth MacFarlane has created a funny world in Quahog, Rhode Island, but is all the medicine from Dr. Hartman accurate? Today I discuss Peter becoming a nurse, Brian donating his dog kidney, dialysis, vestigial twins, Stewie’s ADHD, teratomas, tumors both benign and malignant, House MD, Popeye, stokes, vasectomies, and the dangers of smoke. Oh, also THE CHICKEN. Lois, Chris, Meg, Brian, Stewie and Peter Griffin sure have encountered a lot of medical scenes! Which ones did I miss?

We’ve got another juicy episode of responding to your medical comments! Today we talk about how to get taller or maximize your height, whether you should come out with your sexuality to your doctor, what role the frequency of your drinking plays into your ability to get drunk, the truth about chicken pox, cracking your knuckles/neck/back, elder care, radiology, draining your lungs, allergies, and so much more. Got a question you’d like me to answer? Drop it down below and I’ll try to get to it in my next Responding To Comments videos!

My dear friend, Pamela Rae Schuller, joined me today to endure some brutal medical trivia and see if she could determine whether the doctors I showed her were docs from TV or docs from real life. Ken Jeong, Sanjay Gupta, Mama Doctor Jones, Foot Doc Dana.... and then doctors from ER, House, and other shows! Pam is a comedian, speaker and disability advocate and boy do we have fun together. I dialed up the intensity today by quizzing her on some especially creative trivia about werewolf syndrome, face blindness, alien hand syndrome, mad cow disease, kidney stones, skin care, and so much more.

I’ve officially started therapy. That’s not easy to admit, which is why I want to continue working to de-stigmatize mental health care. Treating our minds is just as important as treating our bodies.

To that end, I decided to explain what are known as the 10 Cognitive Distortions. These are lenses in which we view and analyze the world that commonly lead to inaccurate, toxic, and dangerous thoughts. Jumping to conclusions, over-generalization, discounting the positive… all examples of distortions that twist the reality of what you’re receiving. These occur with major life events like break ups/heartbreak/divorce or losing a job, as well as everyday occurrences like traffic or getting snubbed on the street. Knowledge is power, and with an understanding of these 10 things, hopefully you’ll be prepared to fend off the distortions when they inevitably present themselves.

You’ve been asking me to react to medical scenes from The Office for months, so here it is! I talk about Michael Scott burning his foot on a George Foreman grill while cooking bacon in bed, Jim and Pam giving birth, Andy puncturing his scrotum, Dwight Schrute’s concussion, aspirin, Stanley’s heart attack, CPR, and so much more. Special thanks to my Patreon supporters for helping me pull some of these scenes!
I also took advantage of this video to announce my brand new merchandise available for purchase right now, proceeds of which will be donated to @Americares to help the organization save lives and improve health for people affected by poverty or disaster. Learn more about Americares here: https://www.americares.org/

Dr. Luis Espina is one of my best doctor friends, so he came over and we watched some stand up comedy about doctors together. We’re talking Jerry Seinfeld in the waiting room, John Mulaney getting an unexpected prostate exam, Mrs. Hughes going through menopause, Brian Regan’s cholesterol, George Carlin’s immune system, Tig Notaro’s breast cancer/double mastectomy operation, Wanda Sykes and Jim Gaffigan’s take on grapefruits being used to describe tumors… too much funny stuff to even mention. Any stand up comedians you’d like me to react to? Drop a comment down below and I’ll try and check them out!

I’ve showed you what my days at the hospital are like before, but this time I wanted to show you how I get down on a Saturday, when I actually only work a half day at the hospital in the mornings. Today I got lots of Bear time including some slobbery morning licks and some afternoon training, made one of my favorite weekend breakfasts with California oranges, a good tour around the hospital including inside our lab where we do point of care testing, and even a strong session in the gym. As you can see, even my weekends can get pretty hectic, but that’s the life of a doctor for you!

Legal Eagle and I went head to head last year to see which was harder, Med School or Law School. We decided to bury the hatchet this time and join our forces to react to the popular medical malpractice episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Season 10 Episode 9 “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”. I brought my medical knowledge about a surgery gone wrong for a snowboarder who loses his legs above the knee. Devin Stone brought his legal expertise to break down what was accurate and what was fake during the trial of Dr. Callie Torres.

I was a BIG Nickelodeon kid in the 90s. I loved the cartoons like Doug, Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, so today I say down to look back through my favorite childhood shows to see what kind of medical information there was, and check in to see if things were accurate. What about when Otto broke his leg in Rocket Power? Or when Rocko had appendicitis during Rocko’s Modern Life? I even took a look at more modern shows like The Loud House and Avatar The Last Airbender to see what Nicktoons are up to these days. I couldn’t believe the stuff Jimmy Neutron got up to inside Carl’s head or poor Cosmo’s broken Fagilgli Gland in The Fairly Oddparents. What shows or scenes did I miss? Let me know down below!

You’ve been sending me some really interesting questions recently, so I decided to do another episode of Responding to Comments to get to the bottom of some medical mysteries. Today I talk about how often you should shower and wash your hair, why we kick when we sleep, what causes an itch, why we administer vaccines in the shoulder, ringing ears, runny noses from spicy food and hot wings, posture correctors, electrolytes, stomach growling, and the truth of getting 10,000 steps a day. Drop a comment down below if there’s a medical question you’d like me to answer!

I’ve never seen Lost, but I’ve been getting all sorts of comments lately asking me to react to the medical scenes. Turns out there were a ton of medical moments throughout the series, anchored by Matthew Fox as Dr. Jack Shephard. I reacted to the opening pilot sequence on the beach, Evangeline Lilly as Kate stitching Jack’s wound, Jack saving Charlie with some chest compressions/chest thumps, Sayid sealing Charlie’s head wound with fire, Jack performing spinal surgery on Ben’s tumor, Juliet giving Jack an appendectomy, and the wild “Do Not Harm” episode where John Locke brings Boone in with a broken leg while Claire is giving birth. So much drama. Any scenes I missed that you want me to react to in a future video? Drop them down below!

Jaiden Animations is an amazing channel featuring animations... by Jaiden. Jaiden suffered a scary health emergency and made a video about it! Lots of you suggested I react to it, so here we are. Poor Jaiden suffered from an outbreak of hives that seemed to come out of nowhere, and struggled seeing several doctors over the course of several days... all taking place around Christmas. Was it because of her bird, Ari? Was it because of the stress she was under? Jaiden has a few other health-related videos over the years, so if you liked this give the video a thumbs up and if we hit 100k likes I'll react to those!

The Good Doctor is one of my favorite medical dramas, but I just found our recently that the version I watch on CBS with Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy is a remake of a Korean show by the same name! I hopped on Viki and stream the first episode to see what was up. I was surprised to see how similar the story was to the American series, depicting Joo Won and Park Shi-On, the brilliant young doctor with Autistim Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. As always with these med dramas, I’m a little disappointed in some of their representations of medicine. Are there any other K-Dramas you want me to check out? Let me know down below!

I see patients making the same mistakes with their skin care over and over. Today I decided to pull together a list of the most common skincare mistakes I see from them, covering a wide range of dermatological issues. We discuss things like popping pimples, charcoal masks, skincare trends, hydration, moisturizer, shaving, alcohol based products, sweat, pore health, sunscreen and SPF, exfoliating scrubs, and so much more. Have you made any of these skin care mistakes, or maybe you’ve found a treatment plan that works right for you? Let me know in the comments!

Rachel Santana is a registered nurse and also an amazing TikTok creator. I challenged her in the first episode of my new series, TikTok Wars, to see who is really the champion of medicine on TikTok. I’ve got to hand it to her, Rachel is fast and very clever, so I had my work cut out for me. My producer, Sam, oversaw the action as Ref TikTok and provided an unbiased judgement on who’s TikToks were better, eventually crowning a champion. Who do you think should have won? Who would you like to see me challenge next on TikTok wars? Let me know down below!

5x42 I Flew This F-16 and Pulled 9 G's

  • 2021-05-31T00:00:00Z10m

I was contacted by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and they asked me if I wanted to fly an F16. I said yes. What happened changed my life forever and I’m so excited to share the experience with all of you. Not only do I get to share the incredible experience of soaring above the clouds at mach speeds with you from inside the cockpit, but I also get to share everything I learned about G-LOC (passing out), Flight Surgeons, and why women are better suited for this kind of flying than men. This was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life, and I’m so glad I get to take you along :)

Ava and Alexis McClure are not just great YouTubers, but identical twins! I visited them to talk about what it means to be an identical twin, how that’s different than being a fraternal twin, and also get roasted by two children. We had a ton of fun together talking about where babies come from, the wonder of DNA, ultrasounds, and they even challenged me to see if I could tell them apart. Could you?

This week I traveled to Washington DC to interview Dr. Anthony Fauci, physician, scientist, immunologist and Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases (NIAID), as well as chief medical advisor for the President of the United States. We discussed all-things COVID-19. I was lucky enough to speak to Dr. Fauci last year via Zoom at the beginning of the pandemic. This time around, I was so thrilled to sit face to face with the man, maskless, thanks to the fact that we are both fully vaccinated. We dove in deep on a bunch of subjects such as the effect of COVID and vaccines on children, herd immunity, natural immunity, some of his previous statements, and the future of masks. Do you part to end the pandemic and get back to normal life but getting your Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson and Johnson vaccine ASAP!

5x45 Doctor Reacts To Painful TikToks

  • 2021-06-10T00:00:00Z10m

My TikTok for you page is completely full of great medical stuff! Today we talk about food like Taco Bell and how it digests through your intestines, the proper volume of your headphones, surgical equipment, getting back in shape, proper skincare, those weird jaw muscle trainers, how to get rid of hickeys with whisks, face masks and skin peeling during periods, sunscreen for babies, concussions, collarbones, melatonin, and yes I even speak some Russian.

As a family medicine doctor I see patients for fitness-related care all the time. I decided to put together a list of some of the most common mistakes and pitfalls my patients deal with as they begin their fitness journeys. Today we talk about all sorts of stuff, such as the impact of your diet, the myth of spot reduction, gym fails, supplement use such as protein, creatine and pre-workouts, aggressive personal trainers, the truth about stretching, the importance of weight lifting, and the incredible value of recovery. Let me know how your fitness journey is going down in the comments!

5x47 Doctor Teaches Kids About Diabetes

  • 2021-06-17T00:00:00Z10m

I teamed up with The McClure Twins, Ava and Alexis, to play my version of Mad Libs I call “Med Libs”. They provided answers to all the prompts I threw at them, then I worked those words into a story educating them about Type 1 Diabetes. We used their suggestions like kiwis, plumber, and giraffe to tell the story of a pig named Nia who gets diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes by Dr. Cockroach. While Nia is initially upset by the news, Dr. Cockroach lets her know that Type 1 Diabetes isn’t her fault, she was born with it, and there are many ways she can mitigate the symptoms to live a happy and healthy life.

Thank you to Abbott for sponsoring this video! Visit BeThe1Donor.Abbott to learn more about donating blood and plasma.

There is a worldwide blood and plasma shortage because of the pandemic. Today I decided to sit down and answer some of the most common questions you have asked me all about blood, how to donate, and dispel any misinformation. We’re talking eligibility to donate regarding COVID and vaccines, the safety of blood and plasma donation, and what your blood type may or may not say about your dating life. Anything else you want to know about blood or donating? Ask below!

5x49 40 UNREAL Facts About Your Body

  • 2021-06-24T00:00:00Z10m

Thank you to Google for sponsoring this video!

There are so many videos across YouTube boasting long lists of “facts” about the human body. These videos use catchy thumbnails to draw in millions of views and rake in profit. Unfortunately, almost none of these videos actually provide sources or do any fact-checking whatsoever on these claims, resulting in misinformation spreading wildly. It’s time to put an end to that. I culled a list of 40 facts about the human body and had my producer and a medical resident verify their legitimacy. Every fact here has been verified by scholarly articles, peer-reviewed studies, or specialists. I’m talking facts on fingernails, vestigial body parts, teeth strength, tongue prints, liver functions, sixth senses, pregnancy brains, eyelashes, saliva, blood vessels, the heart, sperm, eggs, and dozens more!

COVID-19's impact on the globe can’t be understated, and while the vaccine has dramatically reduced the spread of the virus in nations that are lucky enough to have access, the global toll on our mental health, vaccinated or not, will be felt for years to come. To better understand the ramifications of the global pandemic on the hearts and minds of humans everywhere, I sat down with two experts, Dr. Ali Mattu of The Psych Show here on YouTube, and Dr. Tarun Dua, the head of Brain Health for the WHO.

I’ve reacted to bizarre health posts I’ve found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok... you name it. Today I decided to dive head first into YouTube’s ocean of clickbait and see what medical videos existed out there. Oh boy, are there a lot. Channels like Brightside and Craft Panda are regularly putting out videos with “health hacks” and “medical tips” that aren’t based in any reality or verified by an ounce of evidence. Today I set the record straight regarding things like heart attacks, brushing your teeth, sneezing, bruises, fevers, colds, pressure points, going to the bathroom, headaches, arm numbness, and the truth regarding love’s impact on your body.

I was lucky enough to sit down with Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy at the White House in Washington DC to discuss his job, America’s medical goals, and our nation’s emergence from COVID-19. Having served under the Obama administration and the Biden administration, Dr. Murthy is as experienced and savvy as it gets with battling medical misinformation. We dove deep into mental health and battling loneliness, which has been around long before the pandemic and unfortunately rears its head in many forms. We also spoke at length about the harsh reality of physician burnout.

I've had the pleasure of reacting to several episodes of Grey's Anatomy on this channel, so I thought I'd make the binge a bit easier and put the reactions into one long compilation! Along with reacting to the original pilot episode, I also reacted to Season 2 Episode 5 "Bring The Pain", Season 2 Episode 6 "Into You Like A Train", Season 3 Episode 25 "Didn't We Almost Have It All". Let me know down below which episodes you want me to react to next!

Season 1 Episode 1 - Pilot - 00:00
Season 2 Episode 6 - Into You Like A Train - 15:54
Season 2 Episode 5 - Bring The Pain - 29:12
Season 3 Episode 25 - Didn't We Almost Have It All - 42:41

I love Bear Grylls in Man vs. Wild... as entertainment. How accurate is his information when it comes to medicine and health though? I decided to look back at some of Bear’s more jarring moments over the years and see whether he is spreading useful tips or misinformation. We took a look at a ton of “interesting” stuff today, such as Bear drinking urine, drinking liquids from all sorts of animals, natural sunscreen, bee stings, anaphylactic shock, eating bugs, swimming in a frozen lake, eating placenta with Shaq, fighting jellyfish with Mel B from Spice Girls, and so much more. Let me know if there are any Bear moments I missed you’d like me to react to in the future!

5x55 My Bizarre Life As A Real Doctor

  • 2021-07-12T00:00:00Z10m

I’ve been an Attending Physician for four years now. Things haven’t always been easy. Over those four years I’ve made a lot of mistakes, learned a lot of things, and had unforgettable experiences. So many, in fact, that I thought I’d give you an update as to what my experience has been like! Today I talk about precepting medical students and residents, saying “no”, treating patients who are familiar with my YouTube channel, prior authorizations, battling insurance companies, and so much more. Anything I didn’t cover you want to know more about? Let me know down in the comments!

UberFacts is a highly popular social media account that posts interesting “facts” across Twitter and other platforms. The problem? They almost never reveal their sources for this information. To make sure everything is on the up and up, I decided to dive into some UberFacts health tweets and research just how accurate these “facts” really are. While lots of these facts are technically “true”, there is a lot more nuance necessary to really understand a lot of them. Today I talked about whether you can actually die from a broken heart, how long it takes the average person to fall asleep, sharing DNA during kisses, cuddling dogs, the speed or a sneeze, blood alcohol levels, pentagon Viagra spending, the effects of caffeine in coffee, the smell of sweat, and the point of our hair. Any other facts you want me to verify? Post them down below!

More medical meme review! Today we talk about yoga poses, spinal structure, CPR, the benefit of milk on your bones, skeletons, The Body Exhibit, back pain, garlic health hacks, double cheeseburgers, anesthesiologists, MRI machines, Lego Star Wars, Sims 4, the cost of healthcare, veiny arms, antibiotics, probiotics, poison oak, sleep studies, CPAP machines, pizza, atrophy, sleep struggles, DNA and RNA, Darth Vader, and chest compressions ;) If you’ve got any memes you want me to check out send them over!

Welcome to the channel... my sister, Dasha! I wanted to see how well she actually knows me, so we played a version of the newlywed game and quizzed her one everything me. We talked about times I got in trouble as a kid, my celebrity crushes, how I lost $250,000, my car troubles, and how I treat my nephews, among other things. Enjoy this sibling tag as you meet my sister!

Wish.com is infamous for selling some of the most eye-catching, cheap, and low-quality products on the internet. After watching other YouTubers like Safiya Nygaard try $1 makeup from Wish, or Linus Tech Tips build a PC only using Wish.com, I thought I’d take a look at the various health products Wish has available. Needless to say… yikes. Not only are these products cheap and misleading, some of them are flat out imaginary, such as a mugwort patch that cures “evil” or essential oils that help you lose weight. That being said, it wasn’t a total wash, as I was able to use a dog toothbrush to clean Bear, and scrub my feet clean of dead skin using a foot… device. I was also lucky enough to experiment with these items with chess superstars Alexandra and Andrea Botez! Which item was your favorite? Think we were a bit harsh? Let me know down below.

Alexandra and Andrea Botez are chess geniuses, having racked up wins all across the world against major opponents. I asked them what they thought of last year’s hit Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit” starring Anya Taylor-Joy. I’ve reacted to shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor, discussing how accurate those shows are, so I was curious to see what the Botez sisters thought of it all.

House MD is one of the most entertaining medical shows out there… but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the most accurate. Today I watched Season 3 Episode 6 “Que Será Será“. In this episode, an obese man is assumed dead by some firefighters, only to find he’s actually in a coma… after they’ve cut a hole in his wall to remove him. House, Foreman, Cameron, Cuddy, and Chase dive in running a series of tests that’s hard to believe in order to find out what’s wrong with the poor gentleman. They test for STD’s, foreign pathogens from his produce, run x-rays and MRI’s… quite frankly it gets a little out of hand and the poor guy suffers a lot. This episode shares an importance lesson in leading with compassion when it comes to treating patients, especially ones living with obesity.

Cocomelon is one of the largest media enterprises with over 100 BILLION views on YouTube. These toddler nursery rhymes try to teach children the basics, such as ABC's, math, and... medicine. I decided to grit my teeth and dive in to see how accurate this medical info actually is, just as long as the ear-worm nursery rhymes don't drive me mad first. Today we talk about exercise, ab workouts, washing your hands, checkups, common colds, bandages, fruits and vegetables in your diet, and baths!

Dan Owens has been my editor since day 1 on this channel, either directly cutting or overseeing the editing on nearly 400 videos. Now that we've amassed 1 billion views on the channel, I thought it'd be fun to see what medical info Dan has retained over the years. He has to have learned something about health at this point, right? I quizzed Dan on how often you should change your underwear, what HIPAA stands for, collapsed lungs, muscular structures, cracking your neck, alkaline water, hiccups, the weight fat vs. muscle, arteries, tendons and ligaments, abs, sneezing, enlarge tongues, prenatal vitamins, and of course CHEST COMPRESSIONS.

*7UP has no caffeine, I confused it with Mountain Dew, but my point still holds about it being a bad "cure".

Grandma’s are so good at loving us and guiding us through life with their wisdom… but what about all those medical tips they’ve got? Things like “not going outside with wet hair” or “don’t swim 30 minutes after eating”… is there any validity to those claims? These old wives’ tales have been around for generations, and it’s time we put them to the test to see what’s true and what isn’t. I collabed with TikTok’s grandma, GB (Grandma Bobbe) to provide some insight into the medical murkiness of things like swallowing your gum, frowns vs. smiles, chicken noodle soup curing a cold, not exercising when sick, cracking your knuckles, raw meat on bruises, plucking hairs, watermelon seeds, crossing your eyes, sugar making you hyper, sitting close to the tv, snacking and ruining your appetite, carrots being good for your eyes, and sucking your thumb.

5x65 Real Doctor Reacts To MASH TV Show

  • 2021-08-12T00:00:00Z10m

MASH was one of the most successful American sitcoms of all time, running for 11 award-winning seasons from 1972-1983. The show is set at an American Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, or MASH, in Korea during the Korean War of the 1950's. Starring Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierce, an army surgeon who likes to play by his own rules, the show was a massive success, culminating in the most highly-watched series finale of all time, garnering 106 million viewers. That's all interesting history... but how accurate are the medical scenes? Today we look at the ethics of taking someone's blood without their consent, performing a tracheotomy in the field, proper behavior during surgery, how long you could hold a heart together with your fingers, and of course, CHEST COMPRESSIONS.

5x66 Things Bad Doctors Say

5x66 Things Bad Doctors Say

  • 2021-08-16T00:00:00Z10m

Over my years in medicine I’ve had the pleasure of working with a countless number of brilliant and wonderful doctors… as well as a handful of docs I’d rather forget. While the vast majority of doctors are kind, intelligent, and have a strong moral compass, I’ve identified 7 types of doctors who are more like snakes hiding in the weeds. These doctors can be selfish, greedy, ignorant, or just downright mean. Whether they’re trying to sell you their own miracle cure, refusing to perform a physical exam, or judging your lifestyle, these doctors should be sent back to med school for some extra education. If you come across one of these doctors, run!

I recently had a patient encounter that threw me for quite the loop. While precepting for my residents, we encountered a patient who had a mysterious lump the size of a golf ball inside her armpit. I wasn’t surprised the resident had been stumped, as I too felt lost for a while after running through a series of questions. Of course, patience prevailed and we eventually figured out what was going on, and I’m happy to say the patient has recovered and is doing well!

Dr. Heather Irobunda is a board-certified OBGYN in New York and the perfect person to have join me for a reaction to The Good Doctor Season 4 episode 4 “Not The Same”. This is a really intense episode where a mother is forced to make an impossible decision: which of her twins she’s carrying she wants to save. There is a ton of nuance here and I was grateful for Dr. Irobunda’s expertise when discussing subjects like preeclampsia, and inverted uterus, presenting options to a patient, the painful reality of pregnancy and motherhood, what to expect when you’re expecting, and of course Dr. Shaun Murphy’s ability to know everything about medicine all the time.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the best shows on HBO, and wouldn't you know after 11 seasons they've managed to make a few scenes and tell a few stories about medicine. Today I react to scenes featuring Larry David and Jeff Garlin struggling over who should give Richard Lewis a kidney transplant, waiting room magazines, heart rate monitors, a torn meniscus, second opinions, advil, sun spots, and Larry potential tearing Shaq's ACL.

I’ve come on this channel and debunked “natural remedies” and “at home treatments” for various health problems more times than I can even remember. Considering how critical I’ve been of these naturopathic treatments, you might be surprised to learn that while most of them a myths, there are a handful of natural treatments that you can actually use to treat some mild health conditions. Honey for a cough, melatonin for sleep, saline nasal sprays to clear your sinuses while you have a cold, sugar for hiccups, oatmeal to treat eczema, aloe vera for sunburns, prunes for constipation, calamine for itches and burns, probiotics, and even duct tape to fight warts. Of course, don’t get me started on soda for fighting an upset stomach! Have you tried any of these? Let me know down in the comments!

Joe Rogan, the controversial podcast host of The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify, tv presenter of Fear Factor, and Austin, Texas-based comedian, recently announced he had contracted COVID-19. While I wish Joe nothing but health and a speedy recovery, I do think it’s worth examining the treatment he claims to have received: a diverse cocktail of experimental treatments like Ivermectin and antibiotics. While we don’t yet have a cure for COVID-19, we do have a highly effective vaccine which dramatically reduces rates of hospitalization and death.

Dhar Mann is one of the most successful digital creators in the game right now, producing a high volume of wholesome content aimed at spreading positive messages and “changing lives”. While the lessons Dhar Mann teaches are usually good ones we should all live by, the quality of the content and method of spreading that message is… questionable. YouTubers like PewDiePie and Sssniperwolf have skewered Dhar Mann’s cheesy videos countless times, I wanted to put on my scrubs to see if there was any credibility to the medical info Dhar Mann has put out there. Cancer results via letter, “code reds”, something called “stage 5 anaphylactic shock”… this one gets pretty wild. Any Dhar Mann videos you’d like me to take a look at in the future? Let me know down below!

Boy are there some truly brutal memes in this new episode of medical meme review. Today we take a look at Flintstones gummies, password captchas, doctor tweets, microbiologists, the calories of uranium, dieting on pizza, birth control pills, essential oils, Himalayan salt lamps, diseases, surgery, 90's music, flexibility and stretching, sciatica, miracle cures, stab wounds, covid vaccines, drinking liquids, Davinci surgical machines, acne and pimples, Dr. Mario, chest compressions, sleep problems, discord, Dr. K, and dating apps! Please send me more medical memes to react to next time :)

Casualty is the longest running medical drama in the UK, now in its 36th season! I've reacted to medical shows from Korea (The Good Doctor), Japan (Cells At Work), and even the 70's (MASH) so I thought it was time to show some love to our friends across the pond and react to their beloved program. I chose to watch the Season 36 (or "series 36" as they call it) premiere that just came out titled "Begin Again". While I'm always comfortable reacting to the medical accuracy of any show, I do want to apologize in advance for not having any knowledge of Casualty, and considering there are 35 seasons of content I'm unfamiliar with, I might be a little... in the dark. In this episode we look at trauma from car accidents, dislocated shoulders, dementia, brain damage, airway troubles, and those fun UK ambulances.

Some of you drink coffee every single day, maybe even multiple times a day, and you might be surprised to know that there is more going on with what's in your mug than meets the eye! Today we dive into the surprising facts about coffee, such has constipation or needing to use the bathroom more, sleep problems and caffeine, anxiety, weight management/loss, adrenaline secretion, performance enhancement and NCAA regulations, blood pressure, dehydration, effects to medications, and so much more. How many cups are you drinking a day?

Tune in to the season premiere of The Good Doctor on Monday at 10/9c on ABC | Stream on Hulu.

I partnered up with ABC to watch the season 5 premiere of The Good Doctor to not only check in on the show’s medical accuracy, but to see what Dr. Shaun Murphy is up to. In this episode we take a look at HPV, cervical cancer, pap smears, Autism Spectrum Disorder, panic attacks, pregnancy, polycystic kidney disease, and getting married  . Let me know down in the comments what you think is going to happen this season!

John Wick is not just a super popular action movie series, but one of my favorite movie series of all time. After watching these movies over and over I realized something: there sure were a lot of injuries that stretched the imagination a little more than could be believed. So, I compiled all of the punches, shots, wounds, kicks, falls, and everything in between into one video to assess how accurate the conflict in John Wick really is. Keanu Reeves is an awesome actor, but no matter how good he is, there’s only so much belief I can suspend. Specifically, we talk about concussions, broken noses, solar plexus, bone bruises, GI disturbances, GSW’s, bleeding out, MCL tears, blisters, thyroids, stapling a wound, vertebral fractures, blood clotting, dislocated thumbs, suffocation, femur strength, sutures, and bad Russian. Let me know down below if you liked this and whether I should take a look at the other movies in the series too!

5x78 Doctor Reacts To Dangerous TikToks

  • 2021-10-04T00:00:00Z10m

Another TikTok reaction, this time with some fascinating, funny, and brutal videos. Today we look at doctors who do musical theater, OnlyJayus' human body hacks, what Gen Z doctors will be like, chest compressions on ipads, surgery on a grape, q tips in your ears, boiling water with your mouth, Buzz Lightyear, some Guiness World Records, acupuncture, keto diets, the most important organ, the function of your ears, ganglion cysts, farting babies, nausea, blood donations, menstrual cramps, necrotizing fasciitis, and some dog videos :)

There is a worldwide plasma shortage because of the pandemic, and we desperately need donations. Most people seem to be familiar with the concept of donating blood, but lots of folks haven’t even heard of plasma donations, so I wanted to give you a solid introduction to what plasma is, how simple it is to donate, and what kind of impact your donations can have on the world. Any plasma questions I didn’t answer? Drop them in the comment section and I’ll try to answer what I can!

Squid Game has quickly become the most successful show in the history of Netflix, becoming the number 1 program in over 90 countries. I couldn’t resist myself, and after watching the first few episodes, I realized there was actually a lot to say about the medical aspects of this show. Hwang Dong-hyuk’s distopic Korean sci-fi thriller is brilliantly entertaining, but is it medically accurate? Today we talk about the danger of eating blood, diabetes, sleep-inducing gas, ankle sprains, nerves in your fingers, amputations, boxing and punching, punctured lungs, thermal cameras, neck cracking, transporting organs, surgery, organs you can live without, dimentia, alzheimers, brain tumors, fevers, hyrdation, urination, and red light green light ;)

5x81 This Was My Wake-Up Call

  • 2021-10-14T00:00:00Z10m

I recently had some routine blood work done and… the results were startling. It turns out, my cholesterol was through the roof. Specifically, my LDL cholesterol had reached a dangerously high level, that if left untreated, could quickly get worse and put me at serious risk for cardiovascular issues such as a heart attack by age 40. I hope to keep battling medical misinformation and reacting to medical memes and dramas well beyond 40, folks, so it was time for a change. Over the last month I have done a complete overhaul of my entire diet to reduce my LDL cholesterol, but it hasn’t been easy. The most difficult part of the diet was not cutting out foods high in saturated fats that clog your arteries, but rather finding foods allowing me to consume upwards of 60 grams of fiber a day. I got some new blood work done and review the results at the end of the video. Let me know down below if there are any dietary changes you’re looking to make before the end of the year!

Ryan Garcia is an undefeated boxer based out of San Diego. As someone who has trained as a boxer for the last 10 years, I was curious to know what someone who makes a living in the ring thinks of my skills. So, I flew to San Diego to work with Ryan and his trainer (and father) Henry to show them what I’ve got. Along with kicking my butt through a series of grueling drills, I also took on Ryan’s Body Shots Challenge where he slammed me in the stomach as many times as I could handle (with the help from a pad of course), as well as his Punch Tracker Challenge where they see how many punches I can land on a bag in just 10 seconds. By the end Ryan said not only did I impress him, but that he thinks I could take on Logan AND Jake Paul in the same night! I don’t know if I’d go that far, but I’m definitely eyeing participating in my first real fight, the only question is… against who?

I challenged Brad Mondo, the superstar hair stylist, to pick out three outfits for me. He had to pick an outfit for brunch, one for a workout, and one for a night out. I had NO idea what Brad was going to pick so I was pretty nervous. The results were… not what I ever could have expected. Nike, Chuck Taylor converse shoes, Doc Martins, a letterman jacket, tank tops, Levi’s… not all things I normally keep in my closet. How do you think Brad did? Which outfit was your favorite? What would you have bought? Let me know down below.

The Magic School Bus was one of my favorite shows to watch in school growing up. I fondly remember several episodes that dealt with the human body and health, but can’t remember how accurate those episodes were. So, I sat down to look at Season 1 Episode 3 “Inside Ralphie” to double check Ms. Frizzle’s science and see if what we were taught as kids turns out to be true or not. In this episode we not only talk about human anatomy and the components of blood, but the differences between viral and bacterial infections, the transmission of germs, and dinosaurs ;)

Today we talk about clasping hands behind you back, outgrowing allergies, popping your ears, eustachian tubes, real meat vs. fake meat like impossible meat or beyond meat, how much water you should actually drink, sugar rush vs. sugar high vs. sugar crash, insulin, metabolism, depression, anxiety, white grain vs. brown grain, probiotics and antibiotics, salt on a slug, the color of your pee, snoring and CPAP machines, and how much money I make ;)

MrBeast is one of the most ambitious and prolific creators on YouTube. He's counted to 100,000. He's eaten pizza made of gold. He buried himself underground for 50 hours. While these stunts are flamboyant and extraordinary, they aren't without their risks. Today I decided to take a look at some of Beast's greatest hits and assess the often significant health complications associated.

My friend, Dr. Alok Patel, swung by to take a look at the medical devices of yore. I can't believe how lucky we are to live in the era we do with our modern medical treatments, because the way they used to do things in the past was unbelievable. We were presented with a nameless image of an old medical device and had to try and figure out exactly what it was used for. Some of these things, like the dental key or lithotome, were the best they could with at the time and led to extremely painful procedures. Other devices like the tobacco smoke enema and Jedi Helmet didn't survive modern advancements in technology. Then there is the Scold's Bridle, which... man...how could this thing EVER have existed? Which of these things spooked you the most? Any more devices you want me to look at? Let me know down below!

An individual contacted me about a recent encounter between him and his physician that just didn't seem right. This patient was seeking treatment for back pain and hip pain. Unfortunately, this doctor not only provided inadequate treatment and a misdiagnosis, but also lied on paperwork. There were so many systemic issues at play here I decided to invite this person onto the channel for a full interview to address not only what happened, but what changes need to be made in the world of medicine to eliminate these problems in the future.

You all have been sending me some WILD Tiktoks promoting some flat out dangerous and incorrect medical advice, so I put them all together for another TikTok React. Today we look at buttergirl eating butter dipped in ragu, how to stop your period in its tracks, synthol guy building muscles with oil injections, sunscreen contouring, only jayus body hacks, extreme stretching, sparkling water vs. tap water, colonic cleanses, russian chiropractor treatments, cigars vs. cigarettes, tobacco use, garlic in your nose to clean congestion, the acidity of gatorade, clearing your baby's sinuses, keloid scars, microneedling, ear candling, earwax removal, and as always CHEST COMPRESSIONS!

Dr. Vivek Murthy is the Surgeon General of the United States and a leading expert on COVID-19. I sat down with him to discuss his recently released A Community Toolkit for Addressing Health Misinformation which provides resources and education to battle medical misinformation, such as how to spot bad actors and even talk to loved ones when we believe they’re being mislead. We also dove deep into the recently approved COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer that has been approved for children ages 5-11. We talked about side effects, myocarditis, the quality of the research, and so much more. We’re simply here to provide you with as many facts as possible so you can make the best decision for you and your family.

Another day, another meme review. Today we talk about Iron Man, back pain, instagram models, fist bumps vs. high fives, kidney transplants, pediatrics, bones, handwriting, coffee, John Cena, flu shots, pumpkin spice, dental crowns, boxing, spines, hiking, weight loss, family medicine, post traumatic growth, stress, anxiety, amputations, patient notes, scrubs, medical commercials, Harry Potter, deodorant, silica gel, tinder, scabs, feet, carpal tunnel, plasma donations, and gluten intolerance.

I’ve answered hundreds if not thousands of your medical questions on this channel, and I’m getting burnt out. So I thought I’d build a Doctor Mike robot, teach him to speak and think like I do, and see if he could answer questions for me. The results were… mixed. Today we talk about acne scars, passing out at the sight of blood, diabetes, stitches, breast milk for bodybuilding, LEGOs, medical school, therapy, helium, natural deodorant vs. aluminum, how to sleep, fever reduction, sunscreen, ringing ears, staring at your phone, and some sicko who wants to buy Bear.

Breaking Bad is considered by many to be the greatest show in the history of television. While that is a bold claim and a juicy conversation, today we're focusing more on how accurate all the medical scenes were throughout this show. How realistic was Walter White's cancer diagnosis? Is ricin real and can it actually be used as an untraceable poison? Could Uncle Hank actually survive the shootout in the parking lot with the twins? There is so much to unpack here and I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it! Were there any other scenes you think I should have reacted to? Let me know down below.

Kris Collins has over 40 million followers on TikTok doing funny videos showcasing her wide array of characters. Since I can be a bit competitive, I invited her to the channel for the next installment of TikTok Wars to see if she really walks the walk. My Producer, Sam, played the impartial referee and challenged us to make 3 TikToks, each within 30 minutes, to see who really is the reigning champ of TikTok when the clock is ticking. Do you agree with Sam? Who should have won?

There are over 25 movies in the MCU, so today I decided to take a look at a few of the medical scenes that have popped up in Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange. Disney spares no expense in making these Marvel movies, but how thorough are they with their medical accuracy? Sure, we can suspend our disbelief on plenty of things, such as Doctor Steve Strange entering his astral state to assist in surgery on himself, but there are other things I just can’t let slide, such as when to do CHEST COMPRESSIONS, CHEST COMPRESSIONS, CHEST COMPRESSIONS! Are there any other scenes in Marvel movies or shows you think I should react to? Let me know down below!

My Strange Addiction and My Crazy Obsession are shows from TLC that highlights the real life experiences of individuals dealing with addictions, compulsions, and behaviors the average person might consider unusual. While many of these conditions may appear humorous to some, it's important to lead with empathy and recognize these are stories of real people, often times suffering from life-threatening conditions. Today we look at a young woman addicted to drinking gasoline, a man who spends 8 hours a day dressed and behaving like a baby, a girl addicted to eating sand, a man who is romantically in love with his car, a man whose primary diet consists of bugs, a woman obsessed with scavenging for expired food, and the world's strongest family. There's a lot of content in here worth commenting about, but please keep this comment section respectful as we look deeper into the causes and effects of these addictions.

Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader is one of the most successful game shows of all time, so I thought I’d take a swing at the questions to see if my years of medical school and higher education would give me an edge. Honestly, some of these questions were extremely difficult. I answered questions about teeth, the planets, Connecticut, prime numbers, US Presidents, lungs, the 20th century, Red Square, Dwight D. Eisenhower, color theory, roman numerals, how to read a clock, calcium in your bones, grammar, flags, 100 yards, hartford, Mars, blood cells, stapes, The Statue of Liberty, Tamarins, REM cycles, the periodic table, Acadia National Park, and tooth enamel with my friend Dr. Daniel Rubenshtein. We may not have Jeff Foxworthy, but this quiz is brutal. How did you do?

The Fault In Our Stars was a hit John Green (shout out Hank Green and Vlogbrothers, DFTBA) young adult novel that pretty quickly got turned into a hit film starring Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley. It tells the heart aching story of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters as they battle cancer. I've heard you cries for me to react to it, and potentially cry a bit on my own, to see just how accurate the medical side of this story is. Today we talk about various forms of cancer, prosthetic limbs, depression, support groups, mental health, chemotherapy, retinoblastoma, cigarettes, MRI's, hypoxia, sepsis, fentanyl, and the true ending of the story!

5x99 The Most Shocking Bodies On TikTok

  • 2021-12-20T01:00:00Z10m

TikTok has become a great place to see some of the most incredible human bodies in the world. No need to judge these people’s differences, rather we can celebrate what makes them unique (and maybe be a little bit jealous we don’t have their super powers). Today we look at long tongues, veins in body builders, double joints, lipedema, uvulas, wide necks, hard chests, popping eyes, hyper mobility and flexibility, spine spirals, third nostrils, extra pupils, ectrodactyly, spice tolerances, takis, peppers, capsaicin, mountain dew, caffeine, withdrawal headaches, armpit hair, toilets, popping blisters, chest compressions, eye worms, loiasis, clubbing and clubbed fingers, webbed fingers, syndactyly, veganism, pescatarians, splinters, a broken jaw, wood sculpting, vaginal odor, cellulite, family medicine interviews, and charlie puth’s head.

5x100 Fat-Bias Nearly Cost Him His Life

  • 2021-12-23T01:00:00Z10m

I recently had a patient encounter that took some interesting twists and turns. He presented with fatigue, joint paint, body aches, and recent rashes. After seeing several physicians across multiple appointments, this patient was feeling confused and frustrated regarding his diagnosis and treatment plan. He and I dug a little deeper and eventually got to the truth. Unfortunately, many physicians engage in a form of fatphobia and fat shaming where they immediately attribute any issue a patient has to their weight. While excessive weight can lead to or be a contributing factor to a wide variety of health issues, the fact of the matter is your size does not inherently dictate your health. I’m glad this patient and I were able to think critically and do a little medical detective work together to identify this issue and bring him back to full health.

Happy New Year! We’ve reached the end of 2021 and I for one am looking forward to a jam packed 2022. Today I not only wanted to do a little 2021 year in review / end of the year recap, but also tell you a personal story about something I dealt with in the entertainment industry this last year. You see, I was lucky enough to be offered my very on television show… and I had to reject it. As dramatic and painful as that was though, it didn’t stop us from having the best year ever and won’t hold me back from another year of excellent stuff here on YouTube. Not only will I continue reacting to medical drama’s like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor, but I’ll keep reacting to more medical memes and TikToks (tag me so I see them!). I’m looking forward to bringing you some original stuff to, like my debut as a real boxer (announcement coming soon!) and this April my first ever live show tour! Rest assured I am not leaving YouTube and our team has got so much fun stuff planned

9-1-1 is a hit drama on FOX about first responders handling emergencies in Los Angeles. So many of you in the comments have requested I react to this, so with zero knowledge of what I'm about to get into, let's go! Boy, what a rollercoaster this series is. These are absolutely some of the most ridiculous scenarios I've ever seen in a medical show, and there is a LOT wrong here. Regardless, we still talk about newborn babies, shark attacks, a boa constrictor choking a woman, unplanned births during yoga class, car accidents, a YouTube prank gone wrong, tanning booths, a nail incident, and, as always: chest compressions.
